Question about Dell Dimension E520 PC Desktop

Dell E173FP stuck in power save mode

When I turn the monitor on I get a message "In power save mode press any key on keyboard or move mouse" I press keys and move the mouse but nothing happens.  I turned the monitor removed the cables checked the pins and they were fine.  I turn the monitor back on but did not reconnect the cable and I get the floating test screen.  When I plug the cable back in I again get the same error message My monitor is working. I have a Dell Dimension E-520 with the same problem. I have disconnected all power...re-connected...reseated ram...cleaned and removed Bios battery. Could it be my graphics card? If so, how can I tell? Any other ideas of what might be causing eternal powersave mode?! Thanks!!!

Good morning! kindly try to review/check the operations manual of your monitor as there might be proper set-up settings / compatibility requirements to a certain PC. best regards

When I turn the monitor on I get a message "In

Most Dell LCDs have multiple inputs and they will go into "standby" while waiting for a signal from your PC. This happens when your PC goes into "sleep" mode or if you are sure your PC is not in "sleep" mode then usually the LCD is not in the correct input selection. Check the input selection for the appropriate input. As always, make sure the cables are securely connected. Hope this helps.

My monitor shuts down after one second.

Dell monitors automatically go into power-save mode after a preset amount of time when the computer is inactive. The Dell monitor will go completely black, instead of showing a screensaver. This doesn't mean that your Dell computermag-glass_10x10.gif has shut down. Instead, this allows your monitor to essentially turn off until it's needed again. You can change how long it is before the Dell monitor goes into power-save mode by changing your display settings.
  1. Step 1 Press any key on your keyboard or move your mouse. Either will turn off power-save mode. Alternately, you can press the power button on your Dell computer tower or laptop.
  2. Step 2 Press any key a second time if the monitor goes from power-save to stand-by mode. Stand-by mode allows the screensaver to appear.
  3. Step 3 Enter your user name and password into the login prompt if your computer requires a login. Press "Enter" to begin using your Dell computer.
  4. Step 4 Change the display settings on your Dell monitor to prevent your monitor from going into power-save mode prematurely. Right-click anywhere on your desktop and choose "Properties." Click the "Screensaver" tab and press "Power." Beside "Turn off Monitor," choose a time amount from the drop-down list and press "Apply."

In power save mode

The monitor is not receiving signal from the computer. Is the power light on on the computer? If so - press and hold power button on computer until the power light goes off, then press again to restart. If the computer starts and you still have no picture it is most likely a video card or motherboard problem.

Dell E173FP stuck in power save mode

Just had the same problem... what worked for me was simple. Unplug the cable from the monitor, hit the power button a few times until Dell screen poped up with a few color bars because it knew it was no longer connected to a PC. Then plugged the cable back in and all was fixed.
