Question about Gateway Computers & Internet
Lost the wireless feature a while back. I don't use it much, so I didn't even know it wasn't working- until I needed it. I have gone through every process to find it. Followed untold tutorials from online forums...nothing. A few weeks back, I researched the chip by removing the cover on my machine to see where it was, and if I could replace it. I carefully removed one of the quick-connects to make sure I could do it myself. After turning the laptop back on, the wireless signal was there! It uploaded a driver and was working...and I could turn it on and off! It was listed in the device manager again! Simple but weird fix I thought. I shut the computer off that night like I always do, and it was gone again the next day, like nothing even happened. Bought a brand new Intel wireless chip. Installed it. Nothing. Mobility center doesn't show anything wireless. Tried a complete reboot, nada, still gone. Countless downloads, nope. I have a network controller in the device manager that has an exclamation point next to it- if you try to load/search for a new driver, it can't find it. Windows troubleshooter can't identify the problem. I've owned this laptop for just over a year, love it, but hate this problem! Next?

A 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
The service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

Windows is installing the wrong driver. If the driver is loaded in the Device manager list ( /Sound, Video and Game Controllers ) as USB2821 then the wrong driver is loaded. It should be loaded under Imaging devices as XTV2.0. If this is the case right click on the USB2821 device and reload the driver again from the CD under "XTV20\Driver\Manual and select "EMVIDEO.INF" or from from a different location`until the correct driver is loaded. It won't work until the driver XTV20 is loaded under (Imaging Devices).

You're best bet is putting it on Ebay with a reserve or starting bid, or you can finding a local shop that sells used computers and see if they will put it on consignment. They probably won't give near what it's worth, just for the simple fact of turning a profit. At my shop we offer about a third of the asking price, which is negoticable.

I know this is over a year, but have you tried checking the bios setting? It may be that the bios has an option to disable the integrated wlan.
