Freezer/Refigerator not cooling

Hi,

My 7 year Maytga PSD2450GR side-by-side refrigerator is all of a sudden not doing it's job. Freezer section is only blowing fan air and refrigerator section is blowing luke warm air. I pulled the refrigerator out and cleaned all accumulated dirt and saw fan running, but compressor does not appear to run. The compressor was hot to the touch. What could be wrong with this?

Ice maker is also not making ice.

Refrigerator

Most refrigerators have only one evaporator that handles both compartments. Only the very expensive ones have two evaporators that cool and independently control the temps separately.
Most simply circulate a small percentage of the cold air with a fan in the freezer section (where the thermostat that controls the compressor is getting its signal from) blowing over to the refrigerator section with the hope that that keeps things cool enough in the refrigerator section. If your LG is one of the common ones, it could be something a simple as a large object blocking the air flow between the two sections or a problem with the circulating fan. Also the dial that supposedly controls the temperature in the refrigerator compartment is sometimes connected to a linkage that determines how far a flapper door is help open or closed. Look for a problem in that linkage or damper door.

What would cause the freeze to be cooling normally and the refrigerator side to be at a temperature of 55 degrees?

all it does is the freezer gets cold, the evap fan blows cold air from the freezer into the fridge section so if the freezer is fine, check the air ducts in the fridge section,if a package or something is blocking the vent on the bottom it will get warm or also on your model you have a damper on the top where the air blow into the fridge section from the freezer, you have an electronic damper, there's a door that opens and closes to let the air in,when it's cold enough the door closes when it gets warm the door opens so either the damper is bad or the computer board that operates it is bad, also check the packages in the freezer,if you see frozen water droplets on the packages or ice on the shelves the door could have been left open and the air ducts freeze so no air can pass through, you can hit the air ducts with a hair dryer to melt them out but be careful, don't keep the heat on one spot for to long, you can damage the ducts, also when you open the freezer door you should hear the fan blowing,if not you could have a bad evap fan motor and the air isn't blowing over to the fridge section, the damper is like 45 dollars and the computer board is around 120 dollars, you can go onto the sears site, put your model number in and look at the controls and you can look up the parts.http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/part-model/Maytag-Parts/Refrigerator-Parts/Model-MCD2257HEB/3048/0165000/M0703130/00006?blt=06&prst=&shdMod= copy and paste.open the freezer door, listen for the fan no fan bad motor,if the fan is blowing either the air ducts are frozen or you have a problem with the damper or board that operates the damper, you might want to call in a tech for this if it is the damper,it's a little tricky to do this job but that's up to you.good luck and i hope this helps you out.

My kenmore side-by-side refrigerator is less than 4-years old. freezer works but refrigerator stde does not get cold. ice accumulates on lower vent in refrigerator.

all it does is the evap fan blows cold air from the freezer into the fridge section and returns through the bottom air vent,so if there's ice there most likely one of the doors was left open, check the freezer for frozen water droplets on packages or on the walls and shelves of the machine,if you don't see that open the freezer door,if you don't hear the fan blowing you could have a bad evap fan motor.if the fan is blowing in the freezer from the bottom remove the second draw or bin and put your hand on the back inside wall of the freezer,if there's frost or like snow on the back wall you have a defrost problem, bad defrost thermostat, defrost heater, timer or board depending on what model you have,if the fan is blowing and you don't see any problems that i talked about you could have a bad damper,on some machines there's a damper door that opens and closes to let cold air into the fridge section,if it's bad it won't open and no cold air can blow in from the freezer,if you think the door was left open, remove anything that's in the way,in the freezer side and the fridge side, shut the machine down or unplug it and with a hair dryer melt out the ice, don't keep the heat in one place for to long, you can melt the vent if it's plastic or styrofoam, after you think it's melted out start the machine and put your hand up in the left hand corner in the fridge section and see if you can feel any cold air blowing in,there could be ice up there too, next time send the model number so i can look up your model,on a side by side you'll find the tag on the right hand side wall in the fridge up near the ceiling or on the ceiling near the light.hope this helps,if you have another fridge you could move the food and just shut the fridge down with the doors open and let it melt out on it's own overnight.good luck

The refrigerator door was left ajar for several hours. then the ref cooling system was not functioning right after the incident. although the freezer is still doing its job Im worried if its beyond repair....

When the freezer section gets cold and reaches its required cooling temperature, after that the frost on freezer section starts defrosting and the cooling fan in the freezer section blows this cool air from freezer to fridge. But if the defrost cycle does not start then freezer will block the air passing section from freezer to fridge,so the freezer gets cool but fridge section does not cool. Its the defrost problem.Try manual defrost by unplugging the refrigerator from main power outlet for 4 hours then reconnect it and check,if the same problem is noticed again,.If yes then its defrost board problem. The defrost board located in the back of fridge section. You can get required parts from www.repairclinic.com or from online sears part site.------------- Thank you.

the problem is in the freezer, all that happens is the evap fan blows cold air from the freezer to the fridge side,so when you open the door do you hear the fan blowing?also is there like snow or frost on the back wall,if so you have a defrost problem,or the door was left open and the air ducts are froze up or the drain is plugged.is there water dripping into the bottom of the fridge?let me know what you find and send the model number, you'll find it in the fridge section on the right hand wall up near the ceiling

My Jenn-Air frig, model JCD2389G,isn't cooling. It's less than 7 years old. Freezer seems fine. Frig is set at coolest and still is only 55 degrees. Cleaned back of frig, what else do I check? thank you,...

Check the fan located in the freezer compartment.

This fan blows the cold air from the freezer into the fridge and is about 40 dollars for the part. Simple to fix too.

Bottom of freezer/fridge only getting cold.

Thre is a fan inside the freezer which circulates the cold air around both the fridge and the freezer compartments.
You should be able to feel cold air blowing around the inside, particularly at the top of the freezer.
If the defrost thermostat fails open, the internal fan (depending on freezer) will stop and this can be the cause of the freezer being warm at the top and no ice.
You say the bottom of the freezer is blowing cold, but are you sure its blowing, as it can feel like a cold blow. Of course the fan could have failed or may be the defrost heater itself.
