Purchased a smoker from lowes it was a display & didn't have manual I need to know where to put water & where to put wood chips

Buy some lava rocks from your local hardware store. Get just enough to cover the coil with 1 layer of rocks. This will help control and retain the heat produced by the coil. Now, just throw a couple chunks of pre-soaked wood on top. I recommend hickory or cherry...never mesquite, it is way too harsh for slow smoking. Happy smoking!

yes its a good idea to give them about an hour,
at this time i ususally put a lil extra seasoning in the wood like beer, soy, wistachire

Oh boy another one who will soon have the bug. lol No, soak the chips and place them in the chip pan. As they burn down you can add more soaked chips if you like a more smokey flavor which I do. Maintain your temp at around 225. Pork butts will take 1 1/2 to 2 hours per pound.
Now that have the bug do a search on smoker forums. There is a wealth of knowledge and help available on the subject.
