Question about IBM Personal Wheelwriter 2

Open Question

My wheelwriter will turn on but then it's frozen. None of the keys work. The carriage won't slide back and forth. It's pretty much dead in the water. It was serviced and cleaned less than a year ago. Anxious to see if the problem is something that I am able to fix.

It sounds like the R. margin is set at that place. Space to the r. as far asd you can and press the R. margin key on the left side of the keyboard.

Be sure the print wheel is properly installed and that there is no debris in the P/W area. otherwise you'll need a tech.

Carriage will not return on 2 of our IBM Wheelwriter 6, can this be fixed?

First spray some WD40 on the silxer shaft that the carrier slides on they get really gummy, if this works run it back and forth a few times then clean the shaft off with a rag.

Carriage return stuck on left side when powering on

The first thing to try is to lubricate the silver rail that the carriage rides on. A few drops of a light oil ( sewing machine oil ) may take care of the problem. Turn machine off, apply oil and move carriage by hand back and forth. Turn back on and see if this took care of it.

Hi:

Open the top cover and locate the shiny rod that the carrier moves back and forth across. Use some WD-40 on a rag to clean it well the apply a light coating of it to the entire shaft.

Olympia Startype electric typewriter , make a funny noise and won't move carriage. Can not get it to work.

Turn it off and see if the carrier will move back and forth by hand if it will but feels a little gummy spray a little WD40 on the silver shafts that it slides on. If it won't move by hand look for debris in the carrier area.

IBM Wheelwriter 6781 won't perform a full carriage

Spray some WD40 on the silver shaft that the carrier slides on. If this doesn't work Spray some on the carrier motor bearings, located under the case R. rear corner. You can access the front one from 9inside the rear you will have to fish the straw thru the case.

Carriage return not working

Turn off T/W and see if the carrier will move back and forth freely, if so try removing the batteries and unplugging the machine this will reset to defalt settings. CAUTION THIS WILL ALSO CLEAR YOUR MEMORY!! If the carrier is hard to move a little light oil on the shaft it slides on may cure the problem.
