Question about Sony PlayStation 2 (PS2) Console

1 Answer

PS2 Problem Hi. I have 2 PS2 Systems that I am having problems with and I wondered if you could help. The first one is the first PS2 they came out with. When I put a disk in it is going straight to the browser. Its having a hard time reading any disks but I am not getting any disk error mesages. I dont know if the lens is just dirty or what. If this is the case is there a cleaning disk I can purchase to clean the lens? The second is the PS2 Slim. The red light comes on and when I hit the power button the green light stays on for only a second then goes back to red. Any help to fix these problems would be appreaciated as I would hate to have to buy another one when I already have 2. Thank you

For the sony fat, try adjusting the housing which depending on the model will have 1 or 2 cogs that adjust the height of the laser and housing, there is also 2 adjustments on the laser itself for the power it sends through to the laser, one is for DVD and the the other is for gaming, only tweak these a little at a time.

The slim problem is a possible right off, depending if any work has been done to it previously, usually that is a repair gone wrong were a piece of solder is earthing out and short circuiting which can be fix otherwise if not the motherboard is defective.

hi AlFatih1996,

Your ps2 lens needs cleaning
1.Open your ps2 (if its the fat one) if its slim you should be able to see it just by opening the cover lid
2.Use a cotton swab w/ alcohol or lighter fluid to slightly rub the lens just cleaning it7234e32.jpg

3. Put the cover back enjoy!
4. If still doesn't work pm me.

My ps3 stopped playing ps2 games

Hi, it sounds like your laser may be dirty or need replaced. First try to run a laser lens cleaner through it. If it won't read the cleaner, then try to blow out the DVD drive with some canned air or with an air compressor. If that dosen't help then your laser is probably burned out and needs replaced. This is a very common problem with the PS2 and PS3 systems. Remember that a PS3 has 2 lasers in it so it might still read Blu-ray discs and not anything else, but the red laser for the DVD,CD,PS1&2 games might be burned out.

Need help with playstation slimline console not spinning disks when case is on

i dont understand why you could fix a problem by taking its shell off but... its possible the case was dislodged when it was on and put itself into a position where it impacted on the insides of the ps2. e.g pushing the laser out of place.
