Question about Infinity BASSLINK Car Subwoofer

1 Answer

Basslink How can i tell if the internal amp is blown in my Basslik. The power Led does not lite, there is no sound or static, it blowes the 20 amp fuse in the in line fuse holder but not the 50 amp fuse that was already in the holder when i received the unit, i switched out the 50 and replaced it with recommended 20 amp fuse before i powered up the unit and it blew the 20, i put the 50 back in and it's holding fine sending current to the Basslink but still the Led not liteing up. The only thing i can think of, is that the previous owner had the same problem with blowing 20 amp fuses and decided to try a 50. The 20 amp fuse on the back of the unit is fine but should it not have blown also if the amp was over powered thus saving the Amplifier. I also understand that the gain control knob aside from turning L/R to adjust volume also pushes and pulls

Sub is blowing fuses!! :(

The issue is most likely a short in the amp internal circutry where power is essentially flowing without resistance acrosss the short. You may or may not have sound or crackling noise as it depends on where the short is.

If you are electronically inclined, I suggest the folliowing:

- disconnect all power and open the amp up
- look for any burn marks around the circut board and parts.
- first focus in on the area where the power comes in - see if any diodes (black cylinders with stripes on them) are burnt / cracked
- next have a look at all the MOSFETS. These should be 3-legged components and will likely be mounted to the shell or heatsink. Look for any burn marks or cracks on these.
- also look for any wire or component that may be shorting other components. Generally all wires should have shielding and all components should be soldered firmly. Anything crossing other components could be a problem.

If you find any burnt/cracked components, they will need to be replaced.

Here is a sample image showing the MOSFET chips to the top and bottom on the aluminum rail.

Basslink red light on but no sound

check the all power lines and regulator .is any of them overheating?
then check the power amp ic or transistors.

What probably happened was both of the final audio output transistors shorted. This caused a higher than normal drain on the switching transistors on the primary side of the torrid power transformer causing one to short and then blowing the fuse. I replaced both switching transistors and ramped up the current to about 5 amps. I could see the power supply was not working but there was still a short. I traced the short to both audio output transistors. Replaced them and unit is like new. After I found a service manual on this item it was a breeze to find the problem.

Infinity Basslink

That popping you hear is most likely the voice coil blown and your not going to get much out of it now. Discontinue use of the unit so it doesn't blow the amp, and you can get the sub replaced if you don't want to toss it.
Good luck, hope this helps

2nd Basslink, still no power-on. Please help

this is in response to the post below:

I just bot a basslink t and i wired it up and nothing it just keeps blowing the fues in the unit i got mine on ebay2.gif so i dont know if i can use the warranty dose anybody have an ida for me- britter623

I got a used basslink about a month ago and had the exact same prob kept blowing fuses...found out that the voice coil had blown on the I had a brand new dvc polk 10 sittin in the closet, I swapped them out, put the polk in the place of the infinity sub, however, the magnet is much larger, hence, dual voice coil, it would rattle sooo much from the passive radiator against the magnet, also could not turn the gain up at all due to the rattle. I got the bright idea to build a "custom fiberglas enclosure for the polk and incorporate the infinity's parts(amp/control) I finished the box finally last night and hooked it up this morning, no power, no lights, no nothing! s@#%, F&@%! ANyone had a prob w/the amp not having the lights turn on, no power??? Hope that helps about your fuse blowing issue.

No power

Other than the +12V, the ground (-) and the 2 RCA inputs, normally external amps have also a remote trigger which switches it to active on. The remote trigger is activated by a wire from the head unit. Colors would either be yellow or blue but depends on manufacturer of head unit. Alternately, you can connect a simple toggle on/off switch to activate the external amp.

Additionally, pls verify that the 2 RCAs from your head unit are audio out and not audio in for aux source.

Good luck and kind regards.

Amp keeps blowing fuse

I have this same problem. You have blown the internal amp. I have had 2 of these do the same thing. There is nothing you can do but report it to infinity and try to get the unit replaced.
