How to get vivitar pro 548 series 1 to work on nikon d90

The TTL contacts on the Nikon are different to the Vivitar.
You can put a remote flash trigger in the Vivitar and use the Nikon's built-in flash to trigger the Vivitar flash using the remote flash trigger.

Nikon d90 built in flash not working

You'll need to get the built in flash replaced. If the unit is under warranty, Nikon may be able to do this for free. Your best bet is to contact Nikon support:

We just bought d90 nikon camera and we found a small half-round shadow at the bottom of the pictures taken when we dont use the zoom lens, how do we correct this?

Are these pictures taken using the built-in flash and with the hood on the lens? If so, you're seeing the shadow of the lens hood.

Remove the lens hood when using the built-in flash.

Built-in Flash will not lock down:

There's a latch on it that should hold it down, as long as the shutter release isn't pressed with a need for flash. In the manual modes, it only fires when you release it up, so it should always stay down when you push it down in the those manual modes. FOR SURE, if it won't hold down when the camera is off, the latch is broken.

I'd take it back to Nikon and tell them to fix it. There's really no way to break it through use unless you stuck something in there, which is not likely.

DSLR D90 Built in Flash Will not Stay down..

I know this late but for anyone else who's had this problem. I just fixed the flash on my camera by using a really small1.2mm flathead screwdriver. The problem is that the mechanism that's supposed to catch the hook has gotten off center. Just stick the screwdriver into the little hole on the left side of the flash (right side when looking at it) and then as you turn it you should be able to see the object that's supposed to be catching the hook. Make sure that object is in the correct position and your camera should work again. Hope this helps!!!
