Question about Goodman CLQ36AR49 Air Conditioner

Fan isnt running

I always ran the a.c. on 70 degrees. I lowered it today to 50 and it isnt getting cold. I went outside and looked inside the unit and noticed the fan wasnt moving but I can hear the condensor. I put my hand over the vents inside the house and felt no air pressure at all.

If the fan on the condensor isnt working but yo still hear the compressor going you might have a bad fan motor. or the coil pack is bad. its a cylynder shape part which should be located by all the relays in the condencing unt outside. Generally easy to get to, make sure the power is shut down before opening the casing. Them pack do go bad do to weather factors. If it rusty and you can shake it and it sounds like theres water in it, then its bad. The pack usually has 3-4 wire connected to it, Remember the order of them for installation. This part runs from anywhere to 20 to 30 dollars on norm at grainger. I replaced mine last year and it worked once then the fan quit. They said the coil pack probably shorted the fan. 65 dollors there. After put back together, runs like new, and i did it my self, with just a little knowledge of HVAC,, Good luck, But first thing to do is make sure your breakers are on, ive seen that a couple times, lol

My Goodman CK361D unit blows cold air from the vents and it is cold when you stand there. But it doesnt seem to push it throughout the house. we can run it for hours and it will still be over 70 degrees in...

There are alot of factors when dealing with this problem. Heat Load ( Typical A/C unit is designed with a split of 20 degrees farenheit.) If you measure the temperature leaving the discharge registers, the temperature should be around 20 degrees colder than the air entering the return air grille (Filter Location). Also your unit seems to be a 3 ton; In which this system is designed for roughly 450 sq. ft. per ton and can go as high as 550 sq. ft. on newer homes with more than adequate insulation values. On older homes with minimual insulation the 400- to 450 sq.ft. rule per ton should be observed. Another reason could be that the units needs servicing like a dirty condenser coil or evaporator coil, improper refrigerant charge, etc can all be issues that can result in your problem.
Finally, most typical units or designed to maintain a home 20-25 degrees below outside temperature. Example 95 degrees outside, inside should not be set lower than 70 to 75 degrees, and the 5 degree range depends on the SEER (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Rating/Ratio ) of your unit. Hope I was helpful in giving you some direction in things to look for to resolve your problem.

THE FAN IN THE OUTSIDE UNIT IS NOT WORKING. INSIDE UNIT RUNS BUT NO COOL AIR IS COMING OUT OF VENTS. IS THERE A REST BUTTON OLN THE OUTSIDE UNIT?

either the fan has went out or the capisitor for the fan is bad and needs to be replaced.if you have run the outside unit very long without the fan turning you might be replacing the compressor as well as the fan or capisitor.if the fan isnt pulling air through the cond coil outside, the compressor gets very hot very fast, and it locks down(burns up). get it looked at asap before it cost more because of other broken parts caused by the fan not working.

I've just moved into a home with an existing Armstrong Concept 10 A/C unit that's at least 15 years old. When I left for a 2-week vacation, the unit was working great. I set the thermostat to 77 to save...

Hello 93 The compressor caused the breaker to trip.A weak capasitor or burnt wire is a common cause. It sounds like the compressor is NOT on even though the fan is.It may need a new wire or maybe a HARD START kit to help restore operation.Call for help.HS kits are not expensive.NO damage results from leaving it on, the problem would have happened anyway even if you went on vacation or not.The curcit breaker stopped it.Its worth fixing.

We have recently had three problems with our three year old Carrier 24 ACA airconditioner that I believe has led to it no longer producing the low temp. chilled air it did when it was installed. !. water...

Your air temp should be at least 20 degrees cooler than the indoor air temp. This is ideal. But it sound like your unit is low on freon. When units get low they will freeze up. They will also freeze up if air flow is restricted on the inside coil or the fan quits on the external unit.

Outside unit runs all the time set it on 70 during DAY and it still gets up in high 70s t

Pleas note, proper sized units may only reach a 20-22 degree split from inside to outside temp differance. This done so that moisture is removed thuss making us feel cooler. Sound stupid but our bodies feel cooler at lower humidity than higher. When we sweat the water on our skin eveporates making us feel cooler. It might be better not to look at the thermostats set tempature and maybe just walk inside and out of the house so you can feel the differance. As always you should have a professonial check the system and keep your filters clean.

Air conditioner is blowing hot air, it was installed 1995 , the top switch option is CONT FAN AUTO and bottom switch is HEAT OFF COOL and on the right is a dial from 10-30

First of all, what do you mean by hot air? DO YOU REALLY MEAN ROOM TEMERATURE AIR THAT JUST DOES NOT FEEL COLD? If this is a heat pump system, we need to look at it differently than if it is a gas or oil fired heater. Next, the thermostat control that says "cont.fan auto"----- this actually means FAN switch to be in AUTOMATIC RUN or CONTINUOUS RUN mode. Leave it in auto mode and forget that it is there; this little switch confuses a lot of people. The dial that says 10-30 is centegrade temperature that translates to 50-87 degrees farenheit. In order to get air conditioned (cold) air, you must have thermostat fan switch on auto, the heat/off/cool switch on cool, and the 10-30 dial on 20 or 21 (68-70 f.) assuming the room temp is at least 72 degrees f. or higher. If you still do not get cold air, then there is a problem with the cooling circulation system which can be tripped circuit breaker to outside compressor unit, loss of freon refrigerant, bad control such as relay or reversing valve in outside unit, stuck heat sequencers or heat element relay that are giving you heat at the same time giving cold if it is a heatpump system. You will need a skilled service person to determine these problems. Goodluck, Macgivor

Check the filters inside and the evap coil to make sure it isnt filthy. The evap coil can be cleaned with a credit card if its wet. The large line outside should sweat all the way to the compressor if its got enough freon. Will freeze when its cool outside or not sweat at all if its low. Good luck with it.
