Line replacement on Troy-Bilt TB525CS trimmer

I've just bought a troy-bilt TB525CS trimmer. Ran through the line in about 10 minutes. The issue is replacing it. It has the 'SpeedSpool 2' line replacement system....not so speedy. The instructions tell you to line the eyelets up with the arrows on the head and simply insert the line, even up the ends and wind the head clockwise until there is 5 in. left on each side. All that is easy enough, but when you go to start it and pull the trigger, the head spins and all the string just pulls right out. Its like you constantly have the head pushed in and string just unravels under the centrifugal force. Am I missing something. Why is this so difficult? Any help would be appreciated.

This was my problem as well when I initially purchased. After letting it sit for a week due to frustration...I tried again. I believe that the manual is wrong when it states that the winding is clockwise and could cause the teeth to eventually wear down. I watched the motion of the speed spool when I gently tugged on the line simulating the centrifugal force...there is no way that you can wind it clockwise and expect it to stay. I simply wound it COUNTER-CLOCKWISE to get the desired result. I finished trimming the lawn and had no more problems...except for learning that I cannot edge along concrete without the line wearing quickly.

You need to feed the line from the slot next to the release button in the bottom center of the spool out of the eyelet, feed the line out through the eyelet then tie a knot in the line end near the spool center. You can than wind up the excess line back into the spool until it's the proper lenth.

Experienced the same problem. Winding the line counter-clockwise fixed it for me.

This is for the Troy Built Model TB539 4 Cycle Trimmer with the Speed Spool 2. I watched a few videos, and read a few on-line directions. The manual is absolutley useless, and the directions are far more complicated than they need to be. People who write those manulas up must be morons, because they can't tell you how to do something in simple terms. I toyed with mine for 2 hours, and after several attempts I got the line to feed through. I used the .095 refill line as specified, cut a a10ft. piece of line. First I lined up the arrows on the outside of the spool (the only arrows you will find are on the top exterior of the Speed Spool 2) with the corresponding lines (not arrows) just below the metal parts where the line comes out of. Find which hole you can feed the line completly through. I had to try both sides, as it seems to only feed completely through with one of those holes... you'll have to try both sides and see which one works. The line has to come out the other side. Once the line is fed through one side to the other, pull it through to even it off. Then you simply turn the spool head counter clockwise, and it should feed through. Mine worked, but I haven't tried to bump it yet. But at least the line did not get all tangled up inside. Oh, and by the way...I'm a female, my name is Rosemary, and if I can do it ... you can too!

I have a 2 cycle Troy-Bilt line trimmer. I've had

Sometimes, unfortunately, the chemicals and solvents used in a "dip" and/or cleaning solution are too harsh. They tend to "swell" the very sensitive check valves inside the carb. The idle fuel circuit has one, the high speed main nozzle has one, and there are one or two inside the primer pase assembly on top of the carb. You state that it won't idle, but does it run otherwise. If it does, some carb adjustments may be required on the L and H screws to get it to idle.

You need to unscrew the black bumper button. I believe it is counter-clockwise. Mine was very tight and took a pair of channel lock pliers to loosen.

What is the fuel line size for Troy Bilt TB525CS Trimmer?

Yes, something special to know. If the new fuel line is going into the gas tank, be sure to cut a steep angle on the end of the line going into the gas tank. This will allow enough of the line to get into the tank where you will be able to grab it thru the gas fill opening with needle nose pliers and pull it thru.

I have the same model from Troy-Bilt. I have only had it about 4 or 5 months. Mine has started using a LOT of oil. I noticed a significant increase in temperature compared to my old Husqvarna 2 cycle. Mine does not completely stall, but it does start to sputter when it gets hot. I am going to take mine back to Lowe's where I bought it. So far I am VERY unhappy with the TBP6040.
