Westell Versalink 327w

Hi,  I recently had a extremely bad issue with my modem. At first it was working fine, but for the last couple of days, the download rate is extremely, and I mean EXTREMELY slow. I am unable to download files (they seem to stop at around 3% and just time out) I cant watch videos because it seems to stop buffering when it gets to 1/5 of the video. I called Verizon and they tell me that my internet connection is excellent and shows no sign of "weakness". Im not 100% sure if it is the modem, so if theres any suggestions at all, I would greatly appreciate it.

Re: Westell Versalink 327w

Without knowing more about your system and what all you are running, etc it makes analyzing your problem more difficult. I had a problem with my dsl and it turned out to be a bad connection at the switchboard. Unfortunately it took almost six months and verizon switching two wires around to fix the problem, but I did get some free service... One of the things I did was set up a batch file to ping three locations, (localhost, the IP of my modem, and an external IP), I had the ping command export the data as well as a time date stamp to a text file. I set this up to run every 5 minutes using a freeware scheduler program. It worked great and with this text file, I was able to show the verizon technician, that despite the fact it is working now, it wasn't working 80 percent of the evening...

Hope this helps / gives you ideas.

I have a Westell Versalink 327W with a strict nat and I want to open it up for Xbox Live. I have tried port forwarding but that only bumps it down to moderate not open. What should I do?

PS3 and Xbox ( NON BELKIN)

You Will Have to Disable the Firewall In Your modem / Router

And IF it is a router then Open The Ports

• TCP 80
• UDP 88
• UDP 3074
• TCP 3074
• UDP 53
• TCP 53

And also make sure that UPnP is Enabled

Westell versalink 327w from bellsouth can't connect

I do not think this modem will work for you. Contact O.T.C. to be sure. For a few details...

I presume that you can access your Westell wireless modem/router 327w with the IP address of - (Or you can simply type "launchmodem" in the address bar - (one word - no quotes)) This will definitely get you in. You will then see the setup menu. If you see the Bellsouth FastAccess Internet Service logo then you know you definitely have a Bellsouth modem.

Now, let's presume, you are using a Westell wireless modem/router 327w made for Bellsouth/ATT. If this is the case, as stated above, you will see the Bellsouth Logo on the setup page. Additionally, it is stated on the page below, that you cannot use a Bellsouth modem/router for any other ISP (Internet Service Provider) This is due to the Bellsouth/ATT firmware that Westell builds into this modem/router.

This is the page link:

This is the relevant quote:
"The BellSouth supplied 327W (model C90-327W30-06) is made exclusively for BellSouth FastAccess. They are functionally different from retail Westells (or any model designed for use with other ISPs) and the firmware between them are not compatible and can not be interchanged."

That being said, you still might attempt to use this 327W with orlando telephone company but I do not know if it will work. (Doubtful...) I use the Bellsouth 327W and it is GREAT. (With Bsouth/ATT) Good luck.

P.S. - Please be advised that Westell does manufacture an identical 327W that does NOT have the Bellsouth/ATT firmware.installed. This is the "generic" version I suppose but I have no experience with this one. If you need more just ask. :)

Good luck,

I have switched to a Westell VersaLink 327W from a older Westell Wirespeed. The Wirespeed communicated via USB and the new Westell communicates via Ethernet. How do I get the computer to see the modem?

If you are using a Westell DSL modem with ethernet connection, then you connect the modem's ethernet port to the computer's network card. This also uses an ethernet cable. Good Luck
