This can be both ways, either they have a busted listening speaker or you have buster speaker, check if you have a mute button.

My hbs 850 headset apparently doesn't sound good to the person on the other side of the line. Volume is up. Any help?

The most important thing would be the position of the microphone. It needs to be close to your mouth, hopefully not under clothing. You need to speak clearly and perhaps a little slower for best results. The volume only helps your side, not your voice being transmitted. If that fails, it could be bad batteries. Lack of power to send your voice tends to garble Bluetooth. You would still hear fine because receiving takes a lot less power than transmitting. Let us know!

Can talk on walkie but cannot hear others

It can be several things. The type of radio, Business band, Ham or Consumer would help. This problem can happen easily. Depending on the brand and model the procedures are a bit different. The transmit frequency is correct since radios can "hear" you. Your receive frequency, or the CODE is different that the transmit frequency and code. These are two different things and must match the transmit information in order to turn your speaker on. To check, if you know how to put your radio into "monitor", you will be able to hear the other radios when they transmit. Then you know to only change the "code". The other unlikely thing is a blown speaker. 90% of the time it is the programming.

My tao xm2go unit is transmitting a very weak fm signal to my car radio. I can barely hear the audio.

You likely need to directly connect. In most cases the FM transmitter is too week to broadcast through FM stations, and a direct connection will clear up your issue. It could be as simple as connecting via an Auxiliary cable or Cassette Adapter. If you don't have the ability to use one of those, you can get an Auxiliary Input Adapter. Another solution would be an external FM Transmitter, with a larger range.

Radio stays transmiting after mic released

What happens if you "key up" and "let off" and the transmitter "hangs", you remove the microphone plug from the Cobra ?
Will it still be transmitting or will it stop ?
If it stops, the problem is in the microphone with a "hanging" switch which you can easily clean or replace.
Iif it keeps transmitting while the mike is disconnected, there is a problem with the Rx/Tx switching circuit. This needs further investigation by use of a circuit diagram.
