Question about Maytag MGR5750 Gas Kitchen Range

1 Answer

Converted maytag stove to LP. Flipped cap to LP and changed orifice. All burners work as well as broiler. Stove won't light. The electronic igniter glows bright red but doesn't seem to be getting any gas. Switch on regulator to stove shut off is on. What can I do next?

In the manual it is called the shut off valve to the lower oven. I verified that it is in the on position.

I ended up checking the amperage on the ignitor while on. It was drawing 2.5 amps and should have been above 3. Replaced it and the oven worked great. Thanks for the helpful advice though.

Ok sorry this took so long email wasnt avail to me til now.

The Oven lower burner is what your having trouble with? So it worked fine when on the other fuel (NG?) and now on lp it doesnt lite? On this stove did you have to remove and replace orfices or was it just a screw down the spud type chsnge over?
Before checking electrical make sure you did not replace an orfice with one too small or one thats plugged up with lint or make sure it is open and can see through it.
If its the screw down type orfice you cant get these things too tight. Once the resistance is felt on the wrench your using the orfice is set. any futher and the safety valve orfice pin may deform the orfice and it may close it off entirely.

If the above is correct and ok then proceed to check the electrical.
Check oven lower valve see if it is electronic and has 2 wires to it. Then check for 120V at terminals when thermostat is turned on if 120 there the problem is the safety valve. If not, it could be the thermostat or a safety switch in the wireing from the thermostat..

How do u change a gas stove from natural to lp?

Nearly every natural gas / LP operated appliance can be converted to work with the other fuel pretty easily. You will need to change the orifice in the burner & pilot. Contact your LP provider and they should be able to supply the correct parts / perform the labor for this job for you.

Good luck!

Brown TM210-4 kitchen range... how do i switch from LP Gas to Nat. Gas on this model? Is it just a regulator adjustment? or do i have to change the orifices as well?

Both. If this is a sealed top range, then you will have to change out the orifices and flip the cap on the regulator. If this is an open top style range (the top lifts up around the burners) then the orifices need to be adjusted and the regulator cap flipped. The oven/broiler orifices will also need to be changed or adjusted, depending on which kind they have. Some older models also require converting the oven thermostat from LP to natural gas (and vice versa) by turning the screw to the correct marked setting. If you have your owner's manual, it explains the conversion in it. If not we may be able to find it online for you to download. Douglas

I have a K/A kgst307 gas stove that was bought new as a natural gas unit. After 3 years, I moved to a house that had propane. NO PROBLEM because an LP conversions kit came with the stove. Used the stove on...

Although the natural gas orifices for the stove top burners were replaceable with propane orifices, many ovens/broilers orifices are simply adjustable using a 1/2" open end wrench to convert from one gas to another. Some brands are adjustable and some have to be changed out. It depends on the make and model. Do you have your owner's manual? It contains detailed info on converting your unit. I included a link below to choose from the list to download your manual. You'll need your exact model # listed on your stove. Pull out the bottom drawer and look at the data plate for the model # and then find it on the list for the correct manual. Douglas

Broiler works but oven won't light like it's not

Hello,
The first thing you want to check is if the small shutoff lever built into the appliance valve has been accidently closed. This appliance valve is either in the back of the unit or under the top near the back. When you converted the stove, you also had to convert this same appliance regulator by flipping the top. Look at it again and see if there is also a small lever on the outside of it. Flip it and see if you get gas to the oven. If that doesn't solve it, did you adjust the oven orifice down? Although some models do swap out the oven orifices, so be sure you used the correct size. Make sure you have enough air on the adjustable air shutter on the end of the burner tube at the orifice. Typically it should be open 1/2 to 3/4 of the way. Since it is a used stove, it may have a spiderweb or bug nest blocking the burner inside, so you may have to remove it to inspect it. Does the oven require a pilot? If it doesn't have electronic ignition, then a pilot has to be lit before the oven will light. If it does have electronic ignition, is it glowing orange at all? These things are a lot easier to trouble shoot when you're looking at it, so I'm just throwing out ideas for you to check. Hope this helps you. I'm a propane guy, so let me know if you need more assistance and I'll try to help you further! Douglas

With the Jenn-Air PRG4810NP (Natural Gas), is there any way this can be converted to LP with a regulator? I'm not sure if I ordered the regulator for the LP range and attached it to the NG model, if this...

Conversion is usually accomplished by flipping the regulator cap around. Nat side is hollow and LP is solid to hold the regulator open. The oven orifices are adjustable and the surface burnres can be either adjustable or have LP replacements.

Can't find a part to convert broiler to LP

what you need it to change is the possition on the regulator of the stove. it's located where the gas flex line conects to the stove,it has a knot that you swich and put it up side doun. but if is just the brioler you can turnd the orifice down wich is tighting it so that the flame is about 1 in and a half.that is located as the burner sits on the safety valve, and then open the vent to give more oxigen to the burner to take away the yellow tip on the flame.

hi there,

if it's just the stove, it's not the control board because the rest of your stove work. if it's just the oven, it most likely the thermostat, blower or the heat probe. go to www.reliableparts.com to get parts for it.

Converting aan LP oven to gas

In most cases the pressure regulator has to be changed or adjusted. The orfices on each burner, oven, broiler and surface burner may need to be changed also. Sometimes they can be adjusted. Sometimes the threads on the pipe are different also. This is to prevent accidental connection to the wrong fuel. The big difference is the gas pressure. LP is usually around 10 - 12 lbs and natural gas is usually around 3 lbs. Properly adjusted you will like natural gas much better than LP as it is slightly hotter. The information will be in the instruction book and also on the Jenn air web site. Whirlpool owns both Maytag and Jenn aire so check all sites. The conversion kit is usually less than $50.
