http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1212If you don't remember setting up a passcode on your ipad, maybe someone else did, and then entered the wrong passcode more than six times, resulting in a disabled ipad.
In the link above you will see instructions on how to deal with this problem, which pretty much boil down to connecting your ipad to itunes and restoring from a previous backup that you may have saved.
If you never created a backup, you can still reset and wipe your ipad from itunes, resulting in everything being erased, but at lease giving you back full use of your ipad.
