This is a Model 417 42042100 Front Loader Kenmore Washer.. It will fill and it will pump out the water. When it should be tumbling a quite humm is heard and the tub does not move.. When it should be spinning it makes a noise like the pump is working and the tub does not move. The belt is intact.

Please use the "Continue with this expert" option and reply with the exact model # so I can give you more exact help.

It will be something like 110.9023784

More than likely - it is the speed control board if your dryer is a direct drive type - unless the drive coupling has failed.
Can you hear the motor start - but just not agitate? then the coupling is most likely to blame.

Is the motor clicking on at all?? If you hear nothing - the speed controller board is bad.

Reply with the model # and I can direct you to the exact part #s to order if you are planning on doing this repair yourself.

Thanks!!

CLICK HERE for all the parts diagrams for your washer.

Have you observed the motor spinning - or any strange smells?

The humming sounds like your motor is trying to spin.

#18 on the backguard diagram is the timer - there are no parts on it that are repairable - it must be replaced as a unit.

#19 on the tub Diagram is the Motor - This must be uncoupled and tested for proper operation.

#4 on Cabinet diagram is the speed controller.

Please first remove the pump from the washer and be sure there are no obstructions, and it spins freely by hand.

Then we can go on from there.

If you need help checking the pump - please let me know!!

if the humming noise is coming from the motor - a winding has failed and will need to be replaced (unless there is an obstruction in the pump - preventing it from spinning)

Try dismanttling it. Try to see if it the spinner is still connected to the base. I suggest that you bring it to a technician.

When did you purchase this item? It sounds to me like there is a problem with the agitator. When did this problem begin?

Snaggs, If your model number begins with 417 it could be a couple of issues. Start with the drain pump. Remove the bottom panel and see if the pump is clogged with coins or debris. It will be on the right. Check the pump impeller. Have a bunch of towells handy as you will have a lot of water coming out at you. When you drop the bottom panel you will be able to see if the belt is on in back. If this does not clear up the problem, more than likley it will be in the motor control board.

The shaking could be due to a defective drum support bearing. The shaking also could have caused the door seal to fail, resulting in the leak.

We have a Kenmore 3.5 Super Capacity Quiet Tumble Action Wash Easy Access. The spin cycle works however the water won't drain and our laundry is soaked. Help...

It could be either the pump or a clog in the discharge hose. Take a shop vac and attach it to the discharge hose to remove the water from the machine. Remove the pump housing and run a wire down the discharge hose to check for a clog. If there is no obstructions, reattach the pump housing and remove the pump motor. Run a spin cycle and see if the pump motor turns.

Kenmore 2 Way Tumble Action Front Load Washer

no thats two different problems. The rubber piece (boot) forms a seal to prevent the water from leaking out, that should be replaced. Water might have leaked and ruined the pump. At the end of all cycles is there still water in the tub? If so your pump is either clogged or has gone bad, and thats why the washer wont go into extract.
