I have an old pc by brother gasme me from his work. It had a password on it, from the previous user, which i was using. I decided to try and just take this off. I removed the passwords from the use

First thing I'd try is to log on as the local administrator:
username: administrator
password: (empty)

If that doesn't work and you really can't log in AT ALL, you can reset the administrator password . Download Pete Nordahl's Boot-CD (here), burn it to a CD and boot your computer with the CD in the drive (Depending on the PC you might have to tap the F2 or F12 key when booting to get to the boot menu, where you can set it to boot from CD.)
On XP, do NOT change the administrator's password, just reset it (to empty)
Don't forget to "write to disk" at the end of the process.
Remove the CD when done, reboot and log in as "administrator".

Let me know if this works for you or if you need more details.
And read the FAQ (link)!

I DO NOT KNOW THE PASSWORD OR USERNAME FOR MY QWEST P5000Z MODEM . dONT KNOW WHERE TO START TO FIND IT OR CHANGE IT? PLEASE HELP! THANKS- AMY : )

what operating system ? and what type and brand of computer desktop laptop ?

Often many users will leave the administrator account alone or have other accounts with administrator rights. If you're not logging into the computer as administrator or have other accounts follow the below steps to reset your other accounts password.

Reboot the computer into Safe Mode.

When logging into Safe Mode you should be prompted with an option to what account you wish to use. Select the Administrator account. If prompted for a password try pressing Enter on the keyboard for no password. If this does not work, try other passwords you may have used. If you're unable to log into the Administrator account skip to the next suggestion.

Once you've logged into the Administrator account open Control Panel and User Accounts.

In User Accounts select the account you wish to change the password for, click change password and then enter the new password or click remove the password to remove the password from the account.

hope this helps

HOW DO I REMOVE THE GUEST ADMINISTRATOR WITHOUT BEING AN ADMINISTRATOR ON MY COMPUTER SO I CAN DOWNLOAD THINGS ON MY COMPUTER

You question is not that specific so i can't give you the specific answer, there're several ways to configure this settings, but it depends on the Operating system you are using. If you are using windows Xp, log off from the desktop and press Ctrl+Alt+Del simultaneously on the login screen (sometimes you'll need to press several times), a small logon window will pop up, type administrator on the username box and if a password was set with the administrator, key in the password, or if there's none, just press enter after typing the "administrator". After you are logged in with the administrator account, go to control panel - user account - create new - and create an account (any username that you want to give) with the administrator privilege (rights) {you should select Computer Administrator}. Again log off and login using the new username and password (if you've set a password). Now with that account, you can do anything with your computer. If it's not Xp then the problem is difficult being without the administrator's rights. If you have another account with administrator's rights, then you can disable the Guest account. Good luck Thanks for using FixYa.

Left my old company and took my personal computer with me. However I can't get it to work because everything is lock out by old company and they won't remove their rights??

Hi,

You have two options that may work. Can you log in with your old username and password to the system? If so, and if you have sufficient rights with that user account, you can remove the domain and join a work group. **Before doing that, create an administrator account that you know the username and password for.

The second thing is to see If you can log in locally with that administrator account? If so, then you can access anything on the hard drive, and you can change the domain to a work group. On the log in screen, you should see username, password, and domain. Change the domain to the local system, and use administrator to log in, if you are lucky, the password could be blank. Or maybe (not likely though, they would give you that password. If not there are ways to hack it.

If you get to that point, or if you need assistance trying my suggestions, please let me know.
Thanks

I can not install anything on my computer i am on vigin media. is this vigin blocking me or is it a viruse

What blocks any installation of any software is done by the Administrator while loading the (OS WinXP H.Ed on any PC --branded or assembled and it came with all the Micrsoft OS, MS Office, etc. This is the practice to bag an AMC (annual maintenance contract).
Simply log-in as Administrator, the PC(with XP) will do exactly as you want it to perform.

Vigin Media is Software installed in the PC(probably pre-loaded) & has no part in blocking any other software from being loaded now or later''

If u still cant log in as Administrator, go to safe mode, click on the Administrator's icon and enter & install any software you wish to, as long as the ITEM is not COMPATIBLE for XP(0.001%).............sodeep

INSTALLATION PROBLEM

I think you're doing it right, but are not logged in as an administrator, so you get errors like this. If you log in as an administrator and check the logs, you might see a reason listed for denying the installer program.

I recommend Linux, but you can just use an administrator account for installing major things like antivirus, drivers, Nero, etc. on WinXP and possibly be happy. It sounds like you know some good practices, not running as administrator all the time.
