The calculation may be taking too long and you got impatient. To reduce the time it takes to calculate some expression or find a root you can make better guesses (initial values), or choose better limits to an integral, or divide the integral in two if integrand symmetrical. If you can select the tolerance (error you are willing to accept), increase it: Instead of taking epsilon =1E-9, take epsilon=1.E-5. But that depends on the context of the calculations. You be the judge.

EL9300 not responding after a battery change. Only a down arrow is displayed on screen on top of screen

Just had this EXACT problem on a Sharp EL-9200C. I got the down arrow to go away and then the calculator functioned like normal. Here's how: I got a ball point pen and rapidly activated the reset button on the back, then rapidly pressing the CL key... probably about 45-50 times, but eventually it cleared all the memory out and the calc was able to boot up. This was after replacing the batteries multiple times and trying every key and every 2ndF key. I feel like the master of the universe now!

How do you calculate sec174?

SEC, CSC & COT are the INVERSE of COS, SIN & TAN and are usually require hitting the "2nd F" or "Func" key of the calc to make:

SIN button work as COSEC,

COS button work as SEC

TAN button work as COT

Formulas are below:

sec x = 1
cos x

cosec x = 1
sin x

cot x = 1 = cos x
tan x sin x

Good luck!

How to use the calc-clean button

Calc-Clean function
The Calc-Clean function removes scale and impurities.

To do so, set the steam control to position '0', set the temperature dial to 'MAX', and fill water tank up to the 'MAX' level. Then heat up the iron until the pilot light on the handgrip goes out.

Remove the mains plug from the wall socket and hold the iron horizontally over the sink. Then press and hold down the 'CALC CLEAN' button.

Move the iron forwards and backwards while boiling water/steam squirt from the holes in the soleplate to wash away impurities/scales.

When the water tank is empty, heat up the iron to dry it.

Finally move the iron to and fro on a piece of cloth to dry the soleplate. Repeat the process if necessary
