Then you have blown a fuse. Check inside the oven chamber and look for missing powder paint or signs of arcing, if so dispose of the microwave. If the inside is good remove all the screws and remove the cover. Replace the fuse. If the magnetron was making louder noises prior then replace the magnetron. Since the fuse went the giant capacitor is likely bad. While the cabinet is open make sure to look for burned wires, check the continuity of thermal cutoffs, and check the main circuit-board for burned traces or components. The relays in most electronics are known for arcing (spot welding) and staying in the wrong position. Tap them hard with the back end of a screwdriver. During all of this use safe electrical practices by having the power cord unplugged. The capacitor could still have a high charge on it so be careful.

The magnetron does the warming. It may have failed. You also could have a failed door interlock

Microwave stops mid cycle

If it stops at 16 seconds and is a sensor model, it probably has a defective humidity sensor.

If it stops after 22 seconds, that means the controller has detected a problem, usually a problem with the inverter, controller, magnetron, or a bad connection from one or the other.

Stopped working mid a 2 min set. no lights no clock display,

The most common cause of this type of failure during the cook cycle is the fuse melts causing a dead condition. To replace the fuse the cabinet has to be removed and the fuse replaced with the same type and amperage. Pay attention to the fuse holder to make sure it isn't burnt or corroded causing a poor connection which overheats the fuse.

My GE microwave will only run for 21 seconds and then it shuts off. Even if I try to heat something by running it for 21 seconds multiple times, it doesn't get anything warm.

I've heard of this is Panasonic microwaves but not in GEs.

To allow us to help you effectively (at no charge), please post a NEW problem to FixYa, and please include your brand name and the full model number from the tag in or on the unit, as well your symptoms "only run for 21 seconds and then it shuts off".

For those readers with a a Panasonic that stops after 22 seconds, that means the controller has detected a problem, usually a problem with the inverter, controller, magnetron, or a bad connection from one or the other.

Due to the lethal voltages used and produced in inverters, I do not recommend that an inexperienced person work on these.

Sharp 1400W/R-2397 will start but then stop mid cycle. Not sure of problem.

Does it stop after 59 seconds?

My solution assumes so, but if not, please reply back with details.

This is a problem in one of the damper-related components, most likely the switch, but it may also be the motor or the damper door.

The damper is a door inside that opens or closes depending on cooking mode. If the controller senses that the door is not in the right position, it will shut down the cook cycle.

Sharp models stop after 59 seconds.

See the attached sample photo for a typical damper assembly.
