Install original brother ink carts. Do the cleaning 3 times. If you dont have any success afterwards the printhead has to be replaced (It could be cheaper to buy a new mfc then!)

Clean printer heads

Several ink based printers have a built in cleaning process. The printer will move the print head carriage assembly to a cleaning station that uses some ink to lubricate/wet the print head to loosen old ink. It lets it soak for a couple seconds and wipes it off. After the cleaning process some printer will do a test page or even calibrate colors. If a print head is too clogged up or the inkjet too clogged the cleaning process will not work then you will need to replace the print heads. May times you can not get replacement print heads for brands beyond Brothers or HP plotters so you may need to obtain a new printer.

HP Officejet 6500A - frequent print head clogs

INK PROBLEM
Inkjet printers need to be used frequently to prevent ink drying out and blocking the print head nozzles.
If the print head cleaning maintenance routine does not clear the blockages, then print head needs replacing, but it may be expensive.
It may be more cost effective to buy a later model and better printer than replace the print head.

Vertical lines when printing. Have genuine Epson cartridges installed and most are brand new. Have done a print head alignment and cleaned the nozzles.

You have a clogged print head. If repeated running of the head cleaning routine does not work, you can take a Q-tip and dip it in warm or hot water and gently rub it across the print head. You should see ink on the Q-tip. Do this a couple times until it appears that more ink is flowing then try the head cleaning routine again. This is a common problem when inkjets sit unused for awhile.

Never used for one year more, what will happen it?

Well, inkjet printer;no matter what brand is will suffer ink clogging if you never use it for long time. Ink clogging may occur in print head (cartridge nozzle) or pump nozzle. So,ink cannot flows properly. You can try perform printhead cleaning when you use it again but if it doesn't help you should replace those parts. For inkjet printer it's strongly recommended that you turn on your printer at least once a week to clear all ink nozzle.

My black ink will not print. If I change the colour, it prints find. It is a new cartridge.

First you need to ensure that this is not a driver problem, by reinstalling drivers and testing the printer on a different computer.

Also ensure that ink cartridges are OK, try replacement inks.

If the problem is not a software problem, and the printer is recognised by computer, and the printout is coming as a blank or faded page, then you usually have a faulty or clogged printhead.

Try first performing print head cleaning procedure from printer tools, that may not fix the problem, but do the cleaning a couple of times, just in case.

If the print head is clogged, that can be fixed soaking the print head in isopropyl alcohol overnight.

If still no luck, then the printhead must be replaced, here is the part: Canon MULTI-PASS F-80 Print Head $61.00

I just bought new ink and nothing prints clearly

If it hasn't printed anything for a couple of years then the print heads will be severely clogged with dried ink. Epson recommends printing a page or two every month to keep the heads clear. You need to try cleaning the print heads, its unlikely that one or two head cleans will clear a badly clogged nozzle. Try doing 4 or 5 head cleans, wait about 10 hours for the ink to soften and do another 3 or 4 cleans with a nozzle check after each. You should see a gradual improvement in the nozzle checks. If there is no improvement then you need a head cleaning solution such as this one:

Others are available just try googling "inkjet head cleaning".
Note that head cleaning uses between 5 and ten percent of your ink cart's, if any are low on ink, have some new ones ready.

Brand new Epson black ink cartridge won't print

Leaving an inkjet for two weeks with an empty cartridge is a definite way to get clogged printheads. Try doing 4 to 5 head cleans, wait about 10 hours for the ink to soften and do another 3 or 4 cleans with anozzle check after each. You should see a gradual improvement in the nozzle checks. No black ink print. Prints in light blue

Cartriges have a shelf life. It's printing in blue either because it has dried up or is out. Different cartriges have different timelines but if you haven't been using the printer often, it could have dried up or is simply out of ink. I would suggest first to try cleaning the head of the cartrige where the ink comes out with alcohol and a Q-tip and then if that doesn't work, buying a new black cartrige.
