Question about Vacuums

1 Answer

I accidentally sucked up a sock into the wand of my dyson however I thought I would remove the wand and use a brush pole to push through the sock so that I could retrieve it however I ended up getting a silver part of the brush lodged into the dyson now next to the sock and I can't seem to get it moved! Any advice? Or will a new wand be needed!?

The Dyson can be taken apart fairly easily if you are handy with tools or not. Check Utube for "Dyson repair" or even "changing a belt". There are dozens of videos and it will show you how to get into the unit. Once in there you extract the objects that have taken up residence in there!

SOURCE: My dyson dc14 not sucking only from the hose

Hi- I have the same problem: suction fine, but the brushbar was not spinning. I went 1st to the Dyson site and went thru their troubleshooting guide and I'd done all those things, so I called Dyson (1-866-MY DYSON in the USA) and they walked me thru a very simple solution.

What worked was to "rest" the bare floor/carpet adjustment, and it's very easy! You do this by clicking the carpet to bare floor adjustment back and forth at least 5 times. Make sure when you end it's on carpet. Then tilt it back all the way from the upright position so it's flat on the floor and turn it onto it's left side. The carpet indicator should be below the word carpet. THAT WAS IT! As soon as I turned it on again, the brush bar is spinning great! I wish I could tell you right now how well it picks up, but unfortunately I took out the filter and rinsed it, so I have to wait until tomorrow to **** anything up. However, I'm sure it will work now that the brush bar is moving. Like I said, the suction was fine.

Just as an FYI--If you call, they will have you try other things to rule out other problems 1st. I had already done all the things suggested in their troubleshooting guide on their site and the only additional thing they asked me to try was to turn it on and tilt it back as though you are going to vacuum and make sure the suction from the top tube had stopped, as it normally does, and mine did.

Hope this helps!

Liz

SOURCE: dyson dc17 animal stopped sucking. brush still

Make sure the flexible hose that connects the beater brush housing up to the connection up by the dust bin is still connected. It could also have a hole in it so check for that as well.

How do I fix a wand that won't fully retract and sticks out of the bottom causing me to loose scuction?

Hello Collet .

First I would check the hose at the bottom of the machine to see if its blocked , then I would take off the pipe at the base of the machine and then push a pole through it to clear any blockage also take the wand out completely this should solve the problem.

also goggle the make of the dyson vac and get an exploded view of the parts and you'll see how they fir and can then be replaced or new parts bought etc

hope this is of assistance

Tip

How to remove a sock stuck in the line or brushes

As soon as you know its happened, stop the unit as the engine may burn out however, in our case we tipped it around, put a coat hanger into various holes on the left of the unit, into the brushes, all done gently and eventually the sock got sucked into the basket. It took some patience but it worked and we just finished the job. Lesson learned, pick up obscure items before you start. This could have been a disaster!! Thanks for the advise and encouragement! Dyson for life!

My brush is not rotating

Hi there, it's Jack at Dyson.

I'm sorry to hear your DC33's brush bar is not rotating. This is likely to be because the brush control on the cleaner head has accidentally set to 'Hard floors'. In this mode, the brush bar will not rotate. Please recline your machine into the vacuuming position, turn it on, and make sure the brush control is set to 'Carpets'.

I'm confident this will resolve the issue, as using and replacing the wand will not have any effect on the function of the brush bar. It's also important to note that the brush bar will never rotate when the machine is standing upright.

If you would like further assistance after you've checked the brush control is correctly positioned, please get in touch with us directly. You can reach us on 0800 298 0298 (UK), 1-866-693-9766 (US), or 1-877-397-6622 (CA).

Best wishes,

My dyson hose sucks good but, when i put handle down, it won't **** but brush does turn

I just had the same problem....suction from wand, but no suction from soleplate, the brush bar spins. Did all the troubleshooting steps on dyson.com but they didn't work...dyson.com says need to take to repairman, being a diyer I went to search engine. I didn't find a fix, however I found one myself....it appears the vac can get stuck in floor mode or in between modes....the dial on top on dc07 ....selector of floor or carpet..try pushing it back and forth to see if that puts it in carpet mode...check for suction or try vacuuming...if that doesn't work, looking at vac from behind vac on the right hand side is the selector dial..on top of bottom portion of vac.....with vac in upright position, recline it as if about to vacuumn floor...look down at selector area ...you should be able to see a rectangular type button exposed ..push this to reset position...you may have to push it a few times...then try vacuumniing.....I finally had suction from soleplate!! Another tipoff to this problem is my selector dial would not stay in place would pop I to carpet by itself, but only halfway....fro a long time my vac would work but not very well...had to go over same area.4-5 times..What a workout! The first time I contacted dyson via tele the rep had me remove some stuff and I was able to look at area below selector...what I saw was two holes, one hole was only over the other hole half way...hence at that time I had only part suction since holes were not aligning properly....I read somewhere as a further tip to get suction to engage, while vac is reclined step on front edge of vac head it said you'll get more suction that way, I haven't tried that, but thought it may help someone

Dyson brush wont turn

Hi There is a reset switch on your Dyson that needs to be pressed when something gets stuck in the brushes. The reset switch helps protect the motor that spins the brush from damaging if something gets stuck inside the brushes. There is a little red pole that sits up behind the brushes on the vacuum head, I believe it's on the left side of the floor head as if you were behind the machine vacuuming. Try pushing this reset switch first.
