Question about Fender PASSPORT DELUXE PD-250 PORTABLE PA SYSTEM

1 Answer

Fender passport 250

I use the Passport 250 in my dance fitness studio. My system's speaker is making a loud static sound that's ear piercing. It goes away after I turn the volume all the way down for a couple of seconds. Other than the 2 speakers that came with it, I only have the Samson cordless heat set system connected to it. What could be the problem, and how do I stop it? Thanks

Fender Passport pro 500 - speaker static temporary, then goes away. Usually occurs shortly after turning system on.

If this system is still under warranty get it to a warranty service center. This is an early stage symptom of failure with the Power Amp IC. Fender has a good warranty policy on this stuff - 1 to 3 years

If not under warranty you may want to wait until it the problem is more persistent - easier for a tech to fix - unless it IS every time right now. A good tech can identify the issue quickly once "on the bench". My 'gut' feeling is the Power Amp IC when the system is first energizing to full stable power.

One of my Fender Passport 500 speakers has started to crackle sometimes, particularly when the song has a lot of base. What could be causing this? Would a regulator help?

You have probably blown the speaker... swap left and right to verify it is the speaker... These speakers are NOT too well suited for bass... They typically have low impedance speakers in series. You run a risk of popping the amp running with a blown speaker. You MAY have to replace all the speakers in the defective cabinet. ALL the speakers must be identical. The Passport 250 uses four 2 ohm speakers in series... not sure about the 500. It may have two 8 ohm in parallel. Do not use the speaker until it is fixed... the amps are hard to repair if a defective speaker cooks them.

Could a bad cable connection make a fuse blow in my fender passport 250, or cuase any problemmwith ouput from my speakers...?

A shorted speaker cable could cause this... however, what you do is to replace the fuse BUT wire a 150 Watt lamp in series with the power input... This acts as a resetable fuse for testing. If the lamp stays lit, you still have a failure.

Fender passport 150 pro- Bought to uses for "Bike Nights" Plaing cd palyer in small retail parking lots. Volume is too low, when ever I try to put input level beyond halfway,,, I get...

You are in danger of popping the amp. The Fender passport 150 would be capable of covering about only a 20 foot by 20 foot area. If your area is bigger than that, you need more power and certainly bigger speakers. I would NOT recommend the larger Passport systems as the speakers are too directive for what sounds like your use... also there are reliability issues.

Can I place my Fender Passport P-150 SPEAKERS ONLY on another system as ''extra speakers'' to a larger system. The larger system is a Samson XM910 900 Watt.

The speakers are 8 ohm (three 2 ohm in series in each cabinet).

You can connect them in parallel with others HOWEVER you cannot go below 4 ohms a side with your amp. This means you could use ONE other 8 ohm speaker in parallel with one of the passport speakers PER side.

Since the amp can vastly exceed the passport speaker rating you need to be careful to not overpower the passport speakers. One way to HELP regulate the level to the passport speakers is to use a LONG small gauge speaker cable on the passport speakers. Use a 50 foot 16 gauge speaker cable while using heavier, shorter cables on your mains.

With your Samson I would use mains rated at 300 Watts CONTINUOUS power, or at least maintain discipline in volume level to [revent speaker damage.

ALWAYS loop your speaker cables through handles of the enclosure to prevent them being pulled out during use which will destroy your amp... VERIFY the plugs are seated before pwering the system.

Other speakers, with input/output, were attached to Fender Passport in the send and return ports. There was a loud squeal and not the Passport does not work.

The send and return jacks are only meant to be used with external units such as reverb, effects etc. These units use a low signal voltage. You have probably dam, aged the internal circuitry. You will have to take the P.A. to a repair center that has experience with Fender products. Your warrantee if it is still in effect will not cover the repair. Soory to give you bad news.

Fender Passport makes loud chirpping knocking sound after on for only 5 10 minutes

I have one that is doing the exact same thing. It's at a Fender
Authorized Service Center now. Hopefully dude can find the
problem. Fender says there is a 5 year warranty on it, so I
expect them to make good on their promise. Did you get
yours fixed?

LOW VOLUME FROM RIGHT CHANNEL OF STEREO 1 SIDE OF SYSTEM

It seems like the speaker jack tip needs cleaning, or the contact has become bent away from the connector and needs to be re-aligned.  The Passport is a portable system, so after years of plugging and unplugging the speaker jacks may be worn.  Try using the "Stereo 2" connectors. You can also try cleaning the jack with electrical contact cleaner, and. a cotton swab.
