Question about Samsung SyncMaster 1100MB 21" CRT Monitor

1 Answer

Image not focused

I cant focus the image of my monitor, the OSD only allows tilting of the focus plane (so either the left or the right side shows a sharp image). The other properties (brightness etc.) are fine. The monitor is about 8 years old and has been used extensively.

Possible worn out tube. The focus adjustment is on the flyback transformer and has to have the back cover removed to access it. The flyback will be a black and have a red wire connecting to the crt tube. This is very high voltage and can be dangerous. With a plastic screwdriver you can turn the focus adjustment knob on the transformer. Do not adjust the screen control knob. If the focus does not clean up, then the tube is probably worn or the flyback is bad.

SOURCE: Brightness Problem

Hi,

Since focus adjustment using the flyback rear controls (EHT) has no effect, then it could possible mean two things:

  • the EHT is defective (most likely) at least the controls; or
  • the picture tube is already weak.
A workaround is to replace the filter capacitor of the ~70V leading to the collector voltage of the 3 color drive transistor. Normally used to replace with is 100uF/160V.

Of course best would be to have the EHT checked/replaced.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

I have a pair of pentax 10x42 DCF HRc binoculars that will not focus properly througn the right eyepiece. Just wondering if this is a common problem and is it worhtwhile getting repaired

The binos will rack focus both at the same distance, you need to rack focus left side to distant image with left eye only, then turn diopter focus to focus right eyepiece. Diopter focus is thinner wheel behind focus wheel

Where is the on/off switch?

Switching the power
1 Auto) Far left of the 5 buttons on the bottom
2/3 ) On the right
Minus / Plus
4 OSD functions) Second from left
5) Power: the middle button

Adjusting display settings
If the OSD is active, press Auto to exit a selection in the OSD. If the OSD is
inactive, press Auto and the monitor will automatically optimize the
position, focus, and clock of your display.
If the OSD is active, press Minus or Plus to toggle between the OSD
options. If OSD is inactive, press Minus or Plus to adjust the volume.
Press to view the OSD. Press again to enter a selection in the OSD.
Power on/off
Green: power on
Orange: in sleep mode

If the led does not light up at all then either the power lead is faulty or there is no power in the power board.

The focus between the two lenses is not synchronized; when I zero the eyepiece lenses and try to use the center wheel to focus, I can only get one clear image at a time.

Here's how:
Focus the left side first.
Close your left eye and now rotate the right hand eyepiece (dioptre ring) until the right hand side is clearly focused.
Open both eyes! Surprise! both sides should now be in focus simultaneously!!

I see 2 planes of vision on my 8x24 weaver binocular

Hi,

This is more common than you would think.. Here's how to set up a pair of binoculars to suit yourself.
Any good binocular will be able to do this and the reason is to allow you to adjust them for the difference in strenght between your two eyes. I wear glasses myself and sometimes contact lenses so it's good to be able to quickly adjust them.

1. turn the binoculars over so you are looking at the underside.
2. on the eyepieces can you see on one eye(usually the right eye) a little plus - minus marking. The eyepiece should be able to rotate a little to each side of this marking.
3. Set the rotating eyepiece to the middle setting.
4. Look through the binoculars as normal and bring the two sides together until you form the two circles that you see into one.
5. Pick an object app 10 meters away.
6 Presuming that the adjustable eyepiece is on the right hand side then close your right eye, look at the middle distance object you chose with your left eye and use the central focusing knob/wheel in the middle to bring your left eyepiece into focus.
7. Now, close your left eye and adjust the rotating right hand eyepiece while looking at the same object until your right eyepiece is in focus.
8. The binoculars should now be set for the differences in strenght of your eyes and you can use the middle focus control as normal.

Most binoculars have a soft rubber eyepiece that can be folded back for people who wear glasses but I, like most people I know who wear glasses, find it horribly uncomfortable.

This method allows you to set them for yourself and if someone else uses your binoculars you can quickly reset them for you.

Hope this helps...

- Oh yeah, sorry, forgot to mention.. This set up is so you can use them without wearing your glasses.. Much more comfortable!!

My FM10 focus screen does not focus, but split image works

I have seen bent mirrors and mis-aligned focus screens do this. It is possible for the film plane to be in focus while the viewfinder is out. you can test this with newspaper and a tape measure. buy a cheap roll of neg film and set up your camera on a tripod at a fixed distance, say 6ft. from the paper. Ideally I'd attach the paper to a light stand or the back of a chair. so that the paper is at 6ft, the back wall is at maybe 10ft. and there's something in the foreground in case its front focusing. then set the lens at what the scale says is 6ft regardless of what the viewfinder looks like. Shoot one frame with an aperture of f/2.8 on your 50mm. Shoot a second frame at f/16. rewind the film & develop it at a drug store or 1hr lab. if both images are sharp, the problem is in the mirror/ prism. if the 2.8 is OOF it's the mounting ring. I want you to shoot the F/16 to prove that the stop down lever is functioning.

How to focus my Zeiss 10x40B TP binoculars

Your binoculars are known as the Zeiss Classic or what was once known as the Dialyt. They focus differently from the usual binoculars like those mentioned. The rear wheel is to focus both binocular barrels while using them. The front focus wheel is adjust the right eyepiece to suit your right eye. Binocular manufacturers take into account each eye is slightly different. To focus the Dialyt...First close your right eye and turn the rear wheel until the image is sharp in the left barrel. Leave the focus wheel alone. Now close left eye and adjust the front wheel until the image is sharp for your right eye. The image should now be clear and in focus for both eyes. It should not be needed to use the front wheel from now on. The rear wheel is what you will use to change the focus from near to far objects.

Horizontal/Vertical Postion of Image on LCD Monitor

the controls for focus adjustment are on the flyback transformer, (that big black thing on the left hand side (usually) of the monitor with the thick red wire that goes to the CRT.) the flyback may have 1,2,3 or even 4 knobs on it. 3 of these would be labled SCREEN (bottom knob of flyback. handles brightness)
FOCUS 1 + FOCUS 2 (focus adjustments. these are what you need to play with) and the 4th knob (some old mitsubishi workstation monitors had these) i do not know, it wasnt labled and HV adjustment was on the deflection board

You will need to apply pressure to the top section of the rear cover.
Look for where the front and rear are joined at the top, and press down while pushing backwards. Becareful though it dosn't slip out of your hands and end up on the floor.
The point you need to adjust is on the flyback transformer (can't miss it..huge blob with a red lead going from it to the back of the tube).
There are 2 adjustment screws on the side. One for focus, one for screen. Have the monitor on and move the focus screw slowly left and right until you are happy with the picture.
DO NOT AT ANYTIME TOUCH THE CHASSIS WHILE THE SET IS ON. USE PLASTIC ELECTRONICS SCREWDRIVERS TO PREVENT ELECTROCUTION.
Please, take the greatest of care if you intend to open it up. These are very high voltage devices and will kill.
