Blades will not turn. They turn with broomhandle but when I throw the switch, just get humming.

Whenever the motor hums without spinning, it is overheating.
Your motor has no obstruction since blades rotate freely, so motor lost power in the start winding.
Once motors overheat, and stop turning, then they are bad.

There are no replacement parts for disposals.

I have a 18 year old dura-glas pool pump. Recently, when turned on, the pump sometimes just 'hums' for about 3-4 seconds, then starts. The pump is primed and does not leak. There are no obstructions...

SOUNDS LIKE THE START SWITCH IS DIRTY OR IT MAY NEED A CAPACITOR it's a 161start cap THIS IS HANDS DOWN THE BEST PUMP YOU CAN HAVE ! THESE AS ALL PUMPS CAN BE TRICKY TO WORK ON, THIS COULD HAVE THE MOTOR REPAIRED WITH NEW BEARINGS AND A SHAFT SEAL AND DIFFUSER ALL FOR ABOUT 100.00 .. LOOK FOR YOUR LOCAL POOL PUMP MOTOR REPAIR GUY OR SHOP.. USE YOUR ZIP CODE IN YOUR SEARCH .. GOOD LUCK AND VOTE .. Jay

Kenmore Model 110 washer humming/popping breaker

Good day,
Anytime an appliance knocks a breaker down, the motor is the obvious culpret.
The first thing to do is remove the motor and take it to an appliance parts house for testing.
If the coupling broke, it is just sometimes just happenstance. In other cases it could be a transmission starting to lock up, which would overtax the motor, and eventually cause it to fail.
Lastley, most models are 2 or three speed. If the timer screws up and tries to run the motor on high and medium or low at the same time it will fry the motor.

My Kenmore stackable dryer (model#417.97802792)doesn't start consistantly. Sometimes when turning the start switch it will run fine. Other times you have to hold it a little longer for the drum to turn....

Hi,
Yes the motor is going out, The motor is getting a "flat spot" or a bad area in the windings. If it happens to stop there it does not want to start. After holding the button it moves from that spot and will run again.
You can do a search for "appliance parts" online and find your part easily. Just enter your model number and find your part.
Check a number of different sites as the prices can vary greatly.

I hope that this will help you to solve your problem!

1/3 hp drill press motor runs hot and very slow.

Look instead at the motor and drill post bearings. Remove the belt to see if the motor runs correctly with no load. If it still hums and gets hot, check that the motor itself turns freely (when off). If the motor seems to be ok, turn the driven pulley by hand--it should also turn freely. The capacitor is usually a starting assist, not running. To test, wrap a small rope several turns (when pulled must turn in the normal direction) around the small motor pulley and pull smartly while turning the motor on. If it now comes up to speed, the capacitor has lost capacitance. Electronic parts suppliers like Jameco or Mouser have such items.

Dryer hums and won't work

can you remove the belt and run it/..look at the motor if it is spinning. let me know. normally, if it hums, its the motor which is not starting, when you replaced the motor, im sure it has its own centrifugal switch and starting capacitor. did you replaced the starting capacitor?..it could be open.

My Matag dryer does not run, but for a while it hummed before starting.

Motors of this sort have a "start" winding, to give them an extra boost to get them turning. Once they're turning, the start winding shuts off. Critical to this is the start capacitor which, when shorted, causes the exact symptom you've described. The motor's "regular" winding gets power (and then hums), but it needs that extra boost to actually start turning. Have someone check the capacitor (with an ohmeter) or check to see if the motor's start winding is open (broken).
