DVR lockup Why does the DVR playback lock up and reset my system? I am thinking there is a problem with the harddrive. Is there a way to format the disk to fix problems or rest from scratch?

  • geurn Nov 02, 2007

My DVR just stops and resets itself almost every night. No one is even touching the remote. Is it failing? Ours is two years old, thanks.

There is a way to reformat your hard drive. This means all the programs and setting you have on your unit will be erased. Call DirecTV and let them know your issue and let them know you would like to reformat your hard drive and they can walk you through it. Make sure you are in front of it when you talk to them.

I would suggest leaving the receiver unplugged for a period of time, otherwise call direct and advise them of your issue

My DVR said the my harddrive was corrupt and it need to clean it's self so i let it, and it cleared everthing off my DVR. Now the guide will not load the shows about to come on it keeps saying "Info....

candgr15,

It's possible that after it did the formatting of the DVR it just needs to be reset. Unplug it for 5-10 seconds and plug it back in. It will reacquire signal and the guide.

If that doesn't work run a check switch test from Menu-> System Setup (6)-> Installation (1)-> Point Dish(1). Select check switch then test. Once it's done exit out.

I would also check your timers after the reset to make sure they're setup as they made have been deleted during the reformatting.

Not able to play back on the DVR

The ssc duel records with a time signature that allows you to go back to a specific time to view the information on the harddrive. on the front of the dvr there are three buttons and the large round multi button. If you have the unit with vhs backup, then you just press the center small button on the front pannel and you'll get the menu that either allows you to select a time group to watch, or put in the time you want the playback to start. after you start the playback, then you can control the playback with the controls on the large multi function button. If your trying to play back the VHS tape, GOOD LUCK!!!!.....If you have the newer model without the vhs backup...then you have to press the stop button on the large multi function button...andthen press the center small button and then the other small button to the right...then you should be at the menu to play back the video either by selected time/date..or by half hour increments....good luck!!!

Wan't boot up

If the dvr isnt booting the harddrive, then the harddrive isnt seated properly in the removeable harddrive drawer, or the harddrive is improperly formated, or you have the wrong type of harddrive, or the master/slave settings on the harddrive are not set properly (master). what ive found is an 80gig/160gig is the most that these things will handle. and some brands work and some brands don't. and the harddrives have to be IDE/EIDE type drives. but it sounds like a harddrive interface problem. They like the older harddrive formatts/(not xp/vista)....good luck!!!!
