Why does my HP C4480 say "carridge jam" and flash when there is no paper inside the machine and I've cleared the carriage to the left? I have to turn it off and back on to have it work again.

Paper has nothing to do with the carriage jam. Something is hindering free movement of the carriage back and forth. Check to see that the carriage moves freely, and there are now buildups of dirt or trash in the area. You may wish to reset the print cartridges to ensure they do not hang when moving.

Carridge jam error shown but no sign of any blockage

Hi

Try this to remove carriage jammed error. Turn off your printer and open the ink cartridge door. Then use your hand to move the cartridge from left to right and then move it from right to left. I believe the ink cartridge it jammed and needs to use your hand to free it freely.

I will helps you solve your problem.

Hp photosmart 3210 says carriage jam but there is none

Try turning the printer off, opening the lid and if you can either grab the carridge or it's drive belt, move it all the way to the far (right hand) end and close the lid. power it up. The action of the printer re-setting the carridge position should make it either free whatever debris may be jamming it or simply sort itself - out. If the carridge moves very freely, the drive belt/gearbox may be damaged.
If this doesn't help, it may be time to look for a new printer ?
hope this helps.

apply greese material on the steel rod on which the carriage moves.or it could also be the problem of the sensor which detects the paper in the printer ,that sensor is moved from its orignal position.

Printer carridge

It sounds like the print head is jamming on the parking mechanism (usually because the actuation lever is stuck in the up position). Turn the printer on, and as soon as the print head moves, pull the power cord out of the back, or switch it off at the mains. You should now be able to move the print head over to the left by hand out of the way. Now look in the "parking bay" at the right end where the print head parks itself and see if there is a plastic arm sticking up. If there is, gently pull it towards you and it should spring down. Now turn the printer back on and it should operate normally. If it happens again, repeat the process a few times to see if it clears the problem. Otherwise it means the parking mechanism is gummed up with dried ink and needs a good clean (see below).

Alternatively, if you see that the whole parking mechanism itself has moved up to block the way, this means a spring has come off. To get this back on again requires the printer to be dismantled - as does the cleaning job above!

Should you decide to have a go at cleaning or re-fixing the spring, the first thing to do is to download the service manual from:

http://www.mediafire.com/?m6ouftizois

- so you can see how to remove the case etc. Let me know if you are going to do this because, when you have got the printer covers off etc, you will some tips on how to get this blasted spring back on again!

If you decide to do these things, report back for all of us to benefit from your experience.
