Dodge ram sluggish while getting up to speed

Alright I noticed recently (on my way to work this morning) that my truck was acting real sluggish while I was going up through the gears and I think it was in 3rd when my foot was on the throttle and it was not increasing in rpms or speed. Kinda felt like it wanted to die, so I up shifted to 4th, same thing so I went to 5th and it was driving fine. So it's gotta be transmission related. This isn't my first rodeo with a transmission on this truck. I've already replaced one and it looks as though I'm on my way there again. Any input is much appreciated as for I am just a shade tree mechanic. I work a lot on older cars (60s chevy trucks) but I just don't have the knowledge of stuff like what I'm dealing with here.

Hi and welcome to FixYa!

Sluggish runs are caused by a worn out torque converter. I strongly suggest that you have it replaced, after the replacement a smooth drive and shifting will be noticeable.

Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa! Have a good one!

Although you didn't mention it, the speedometer probably bounces also. Replacing the speed sensor on the side of the transmission should solve both your problems. Good luck

Sluggish on the take off

I would most certainly suspect the fuel filter first. This should be replaced atleast every 10,000 miles. Also check your air filter while your at it . If the problem continues I would then check spark plugs (replace every 15,000 miles), cap & rotor if equipped, and plug wires (replace about every 25,000 miles). It could also be a small vacuum leak.
