How to instal a hunter ceiling fan with lights in an old house that has all black wireinh?

first off , if the wiring is all black it is strongly suggest that you get in an electrician to check the wiring and the wiring insulation
All black indicates rubber insulation which is the major cause of house fires ( rubber insulation is common in old houses )
next if it is all black plastic, it indicates that the wiring was done illegally as the power supply wire must be red, neutral wire black and the ground wire green or yellow with a green stripe
at the least you should be using an electrician for this installation as it is involved in the circuitry.

How do I connect an old 3-way toggle switch to my new 3-way dimmer?

Cookrobert- you have to determine wich wire is the common wire in the box (house). Look in the box and see wich two wires ore in the same sleave. (These will be your travelers, (more than likely a black and a red) the wire that is in its own sleave (black)with a white tied to other whites is the common. Now the dimmer will tell you wich wire is commom. Tie the tow commons together. The green wire is ground if your house does not have ground , cap it and forget the green, if your house does have a ground (bare copper wire) then connect the green to the bare wires is the house box. Now your to travelers on the house side will tie to the two travelers on the dimmer side. Once you have found the traveller's on the house side and dimmer travelers they can be flip flopped. It dosnt matter. Just as long as they are the traveller's it will work. It sounds complicated but I'm sure you got this. I'm a 30 year electrician. (master).. I'll be looking for your update my friend. Good luck

Black scum in dispenser tray .. seems deep inside.. where is it coming from and how do I dis-assemble it enough to get it clean??

The scum is actually from the cold water supply, and is a common problem.
Best way to clean it, is to get a long handled stiiff bristle brush, and scrub inside the housing to clean it.
It is a recurring problem, so it will need doing again eventually.

Hope this helps.

Smelly airconditioner

Smell is more than likely from standing water in the blower housing. In front of the pssenger under the hood, there is a box mounted on the firewall. That is the bloer housing. Under that housing is a drain that commonly plugs up from slime. Locate it and it should come off by squeezing it. You will see how it goes back in once you have it out.Clean the drain and woirk it to break its form. They have a tendancy to harden and stay closed. It should be soft enough to open by the fan pressure in the housing. Clean with your pinky as best you can in the box.

Dryer outlet does not have common wire.

You can replace the 4 prong with a three prog cord found at Lowes etc.

First, disconnect the black wire, one of the "hot" connections, from the left side post by removing the terminal screw. This is one-half of the 240-volt connection.
Next, disconnect the red wire, another of the "hot" connections, from the right side post by removing the terminal screw. This is the other half of the 240-volt connection.
Then, disconnect the white wire from the center connection. It is used for the neutral connection.
Now, disconnect the green wire from the machine case by unscrewing the green screw.
The next step is critical to return your electrical connection to factory condition before installng the 3-prong cord! Locate the white machine wire that is now connected to the neutral (center) screw terminal. Disconnect it from there and install it under the green ground screw.Connect the outer two wires (hot wires) to the outer two screws, obviously, one on each screw.
Now connect the center wire (neutral) to the center post. You'll notice the white machine wire is now the case ground connection, unlike the 4-prong cord connection in which the green wire from the cord makes the ground connection.

Hard to start sometimes ,idles rough, sometimes wont start but runs fine once going

You may have a problem with the coolant sensor. IT's giving a signal that the engine is hot when it is cold. This is a common problem with Dodge products.Sensor near thermostat housing. Put pan under car & drain coolant down low enough to remove sensor replace but do not over tighten ie 5ft. lbs or till it doesn't leak.
