Question about KitchenAid Refrigerators

1 Answer

Can not get temp. below +10 f

Compressor change out 2yr. ago to Copeland #RS64c2E-CAA-959.. using R404A...approx. HP=250psi..LP=10psi..cool down time 24=hr. opened evap. compartment found ice building up of lower drain pan area. Compressor running all the time. door seals good, turned light off Same problem. For about two months, the freezer, which is set to "0", never gets below 7 or 8 and is often up to 10 or 14 degrees; seems to run all the time; problem with small leaks on floor in the morning; and there is a build up of ice under the lowest freezer drawer. If it's a defrost problem, what can I do to get the repair guy to check it out?

I have a 404-A Low Temp Freezer Box that will not pull down to -10. Stops at a box temp of 18 degrees. I have changed the Compressor , Expansion Valve, Driers, Triple Evzcuated three times. You cannot...

sounds like you covered most all bases. without knowing pressures, I would look for a possible restriction. Since the TXV was replaced, are you sure you went back with OEM? If refrigerant was weighed in, was the drier an oversized one? It's rare but I have found some units that just don't cool right with the factory weigh in charge. You may want to try to charge by pressures. If it has a condensate pan with a hot gas line, be sure it is dry before trying as this effects the pressures. Good luck. Looking forward to hear about the fix.

I removed a a/c compressor for repair a magnetic clutch.after installation and recharged with about 700gm r134a gas, high preesure 250psi, low pressure 10psi at idle speed 800rpm, turn on a/c blower speed...

You removed the AC compressor? DId you block it in like A-6 compressors or just open the system? If you did not block it in, then you are required to flush the whole system replace the R/D or dessicant and check the OT or EV. Then you add the oil or seal and add oil charge and evac it and then charge it. This is not going to be cheap. You could have just R/R the clutch without taking the compressor off.

Can you put r408a in r404a compressor but the system is on r502 they used r408a as a drop in. is the oil in the system compatable

R 404a compressors use ester oil, this oil can be used with old and new refrigerants.
R502 and R408a compressors used mineral oil, that oil cannot be circulated by new HFC refrigerants like R404a.
So if you know the oil is compatible and the refrigerants have very similar cooling characteristics ...I can't see y not.

Normal Operating pressure for true 2 door Freezer R404A Room Under 80 degrees F Box at -10 degrees F

The pressures depend, somewhat, on the expansion device,i.e. a TXV or Cap Tube. Take a pressure reading, then convert it to a temperature. The evap temp should be right at 10 colder than the box temp. Remember, heat flows to cold so the evap has to "Lead the Load" in order to cool. In many cases, the condensing pressure is usually ambient temp, plus 30, then convert to a pressure. These are general accepted practices that have been used for many years.

Hope this helps

A/C sporadic compressor. Bypassed high and low with paper clip. Pressures good has Freon. Clutch tests OK. Vehicle runs for maybe 10 min or some times 30 then A/C shuts down. Maybe A/C will fire up...

This is just a suggestion but you should check to see if you have a thermostatic control switch in your evaporator this could be the cause if the intermittent problem. The switch is actually used tokeep your ac from freezing up i believe.
