Question about Garden
When clutch is released, the motor dies when the drive is engaged. when the drive is locked out, the engine stays running when the clutch is released. I replaced the safety switch on the pedal and the seat switch has been bypassed for years. The connection on the bypassed switch is good.
You only have three saftey switches on your mower one on clutch pedal, one on deck engage, one on seat,be sure all are working you can check them by crossing the switches one by one .

the seat switch is the problem. the switch itself could be bad, but usually theproblem is that the connector is just not plugged in all the way [by the way, trying to bypass the switch by inserting the wire doesn't work because there is a "switch" inside the connector to prevent you from doing just what you did]
