In North America we use letter and in Europe and Asia they use A4. Look into the manual and look for paper size setting and make sure the papersize is selected correctly. For instance the paper size should be LTR in America. Not too familiar with this model but in Canon models it is usually under data registration and then go to common settings/ paper size.

Are you looking at the canon error window picture that show up on your monitor: It is the front inner flap you see after you open up the two top "covers". I forgot I opened this one looking for a paper jam. The printer cartridges would not even move to the front with this flap opened. After I closed the inner flap it all works (after opening and closing the top two "covers" many times!

if you open the front cover, there is a little white sensor you can see through a slot to the left. this is the sensor for the cover, i just fixed a machine where that little sensor was stuck down to the cover wasn't pushing it in correctly.

I had the same issue, turning off didn't solve it.
There's a plastic flap the width of the print tray just inside that I flipped up and it solved this problem. It is directly in front of the ink tanks. I'm assuming we flipped it down and forgot about it. It seems it needs to stay up, although you wouldn't notice it when it flips down when you close the top, as it closes just fine with it down. It's easy to overlook. This took me a few hours to realize.
The top of the flap has a half circle cut out of it in the middle.

This is a known issue,
Open the cover where the cartridge is located. Above the cartridge on the white plastic you wil notice three vertical slots. These are interlock slots. If you look at the door you will see projections that marry up to these slots.
The slot to the farthest left is the issue. There is a switch on a teeter totter that is suppose to return to the the up position. If you look into the slot you should see a white piece of plastic going across the opening horizontally.
Don't see it? Give the plastic case above the slot a smart whack with you open hand( easy now it doesn't take much). If the wihite plastic appears inside you're all set. close the cover and get back to work. If not you mght need to take the next step and remove the top cove to see if the tetter totter has disengaged from it's pedestal. Good luck. By the way if the probelm keeps comeing back you might try super glueing a washer onto the teeter totter to provide a little more .wieght

Turn program selector to "off". Turn

Press "start / pause" until the start / pause light flashes.
First, unplug the machine and turn off the water supply. On the lower right of the front panel is a 6" / 15mm cover. Near the bottom of this cover is a small hole. Insert a piece of wire into this hole, and push in gently. While pushing, turn the cover clockwise, it will came off.
