Bad mouse or usb ports

Not sure if its the mouse or usb ports, but my trackball is only a few months old and i used it on my previous laptop, which is only a month old. Says it doesnt recognize it. Also, my headset doesnt work in the ports... so again, not sure if its the ports

Clean the mouse properly.... try some different mouse run a hardware daignostic test on mouse and also on the mother board....

Step 1:
For a standard trackball mouse, unplug the mouse, turn it over and then twist the retaining ring counter-clockwise to remove it. Remove the trackball inside the mouse. Clean the trackball with warm water and dry carefully. Clean the rollers inside the mouse with a cotton swab dipped in rubbing alcohol. Replace the trackball, then secure it with the retaining ring. Clean the outside of the mouse with rubbing alcohol and a cotton ball. For an optical or wireless mouse, clean the bottom of the mouse and the surface it sits on with a damp cloth. Cursor freezing

Cause:
There are a number of reasons why a mouse or trackball may suddenly stop working. These include the following:
  • defective hardware
  • system configuration changes
  • wireless detection issues
  • hardware connection failures
Solution:
It is possible that the mouse or trackball has failed. A failed unit can be described as a product that works for a period of time then suddenly stops working. Verify that you have not made any changes to the system that might coincide with the failure of the product. For example, if you moved the connection of the device to another port to add another device to the system or if you added new software or made other system changes. Also, verify the device has not become disconnected from the system by checking to see the device is correctly connected. Once you have verified the above potential causes for failure, proceed to the following steps.
1. Wireless Detection Issues
If you are using a wireless mouse or trackball, you should first check to see if you have a connection issue. Please see Knowledge Base article 970 for information on diagnosing and resolving detection issues.
2. Port Connection Issues
If you have concluded that the issue is not due to a detection issue and the pointing device has just stopped working, try the device in another port. If you were using it on the PS/2 port, try moving it to the USB port if you mouse supports it. If you have another USB port, try that other port. If you were connected through a hub, try connecting directly to the system ports to verify the hub has not failed.
3. If the device doesn't work on a second port, try it on a second system, if possible. If it fails on a second system, then the device probably is defective. You may also want to try a second mouse in the same port that the failed mouse was using.
4. If the second mouse does not function in the same port, verify the system port has not failed. Contact the system manufacture for more information on the status of the system port.
5. If either the mouse fails on a second system or the second mouse works in the same port, then you know the Logitech mouse is defective. If this is the case, please contact to inquire about a warranty replacement.

My mouse and printer are both connected through USB ports. The mouse will not now work when the USB cable to the printer is attached and printer is turned on. All USB ports are working properly. This is a...


I had the same problem with mouse, it happens when devices connected to two USB ports that are close to each other, so I connected mouse in the back of computer USB and printer in the front USB (or reverse), or further away from each other.

The trackball and buttons under eneath do not work


Is that a USB or PS/2 mouse? If that is a USB mouse, try connecting it into anotherUSB ports of the computer or try another machine.

Same thing with the PS/2 mouse, try another machine and if you get the same problem, then the mouse is bad and needs to be replaced.

Scorpius K3NT USB Keyboard prevents resume after standby in Win2K


When entering standby, the usb ports go to sleep. Most motherboards allow you to tell the bios that you are using a usb keyboard. That should solve the problem. I keep an old ps2 keyboard plugged in and on the floor as a 'just in case'.

It could be a bad Trackman or a bad PS/2 Port.

1st test if it's the port by trying another mouse, or by trying this Trackman in another known working PS/2 port on another computer.  (don't forget to reboot each time you plug in a PS/2 device)

2nd, you can try using a PS/2 to USB adaptor.

Mouse not working


Normal 0 Try disconnecting the Mouse from the USB port and reinstall the CD software program. When the program asks you to connect the Mouse to the USB port, do so and it should work.

Hi, Please uninstall any logitech software version present on your OS (if available) - Then please proceed to clean boot. ( http://logitech-en-amr.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/logitech_en_amr.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=228 ) -> Unplug all the USB devices connected to the computer ( Less keyboard + mouse ) please use corded kbd+mouse if
possible rather than a cordless device. -> Go to device manager -> Delete all the USB HOST CONTROLLER -- All of them -- -> The host controller might reinstall them itslef, let the computer handle the reinstallation -> If the computer does not reinstall the host controllers, trigger the detection using the DM function " Scan for
new hardware " ( The computer with magnifier icon ) -> Once reinstalled, clean boot -> Reinstall the software if available and/or plug the hardware when needed. -> Should work.
This TB delete the usb ports " memory " means if a device as been previously flagged with error, it will redetect
the device without the flag, unless there is some serious issue with the hardware/OS
If after this the issue persist, then I suggest you to call Logitech support to issue a replacement, hardware
failures are covered by warranty terms
