Directions for use. Do I preheat and how much kernels do I put in?

Yes, you should preheat the kettle some. Each model varies on the amount of kernels. 2,4,6,8,12,14,16,20,32 ounce machines are common. Search your popcorn make and model to find out the popcorn recipe.

Will thermostat stop kettle from overheating and blowing thermal fuse

The thermostat built into the kettle stops the kettle from heating at a prescribed temperature. usually around 425 F. This is hot enough to smoke and cause instant burns, but is the required temp for popping popcorn.

I do not know of a "thermal fuse" built into popcorn machines. Mechanical thermo stats are not flawless. they can and do malfunction, either too cold or too hot. the model popper you have is not adjustable, or repairable.

If you are tripping a electrical circuit breaker that is a different problem not related to kettle heat. It is a symptom of an overloading problem of your outlet, or a ground fault in the popcorn popper.

May I ask how much popcorn can the Elite Epm 250 Popcorn maker can produce?

The manufacturer rates it as a 2.5 ounce kettle. This means 2.5 ounces of raw kernels each batch.
1 ounce of kernels = 1 quart of popped popcorn.
Roughly a half gallon of popcorn every 3-4 minutes.

I have a Retro Series Popcorn maker, new. Can you tell me the kettle size in OZ, 2,3,4 etc. I have pre-measured packets given to me that are for a 4 oz Kettle. Thanks Dan Martin

Hello Dan, According to the manufacturer specifications, your popcorn popper has a 2 ounce capacity kettle. so you should be able to take those premeasured packets and by using exactly (close enough) half, get the desired results of pop corn out of your popper.

If you also want to use your own popcorn, here's some directions that will let you do that also.

First, turn on the popper and add 1 teaspoon of oil or butter, you can also use Land O' Lakes Margarine as it doesn't burn the popcorn like most butter will do so this is a personal preference (so you can use whatever your preference is but it must be melted). I've not tried it un-melted but I don't think it would work too well.

Then add ¼ cup of unpopped popcorn, brand doesn't matter. Wait and within 5 to 10 minutes it will hve popped.
Hope you find this Very Helpful and best regards!

Trips circuit when you turn on the Kettle heat

When the fuse blows see what else in the house is out, maybe you have the circuit overloaded. Try putting the popcorn maker on a different unused curcuit to see if it still blows. Then you will know if it is the popcorn maker.
