Question about Texas Instruments TI-84 Plus Calculator

When i try to make/draw lines on the graph, nothing shows up.

I usually type something like Line(7,5,8,5). is that wrong?

Check your window settings (ZOOM, ZStandard gives the normal -10 to 10 for x and y). The Line(a,b,c,d) function draws a line from (a,b) to (c,d)

Choose one of the inequality type graphs

by pressing F3 Type.

Press F6 for the arrow on the right, you will get the other types

For example press F1 to select the Y greater than type graph.

Notice that on the top line Graph Func: Y>. From now on all the graphs you will draw will be Y> some function in X.

Start entering the function. As you start the screen will show Y1>

Enter the function for example sin(X^2). Use the X, theta, T to input the X variable.

Press the EXE key to complete the function line. The screen will look like on the following screen grab

If you see no icons, press Menu

If the first line of the display show Graph Func : Y= you should be able to draw your function.

The vertical line is called an asymptote, it is not connecting the graph, it means that the function goes to infinity as the function nears the line. In this case the graph goes to infinity and negative infinity as the x nears 7. This is because the function becomes undefined at x = 7 , plug 7 into x and we get 1/0, dividing by zero is undefined. Thus, the calculator puts the vertical asymptote in the graph to symbolize the action of the function nearing infinity.

Reset the calculator RAM then draw a simple function such as Y1=X.

To reset the RAM:

Press [CLEAR] to erase the "RAM Cleared" Message.

To reset the RAM:

Hello,

Use the [Y=] entry screen to enter the functions you want to graph. Make sure that the** = **sign after Y1, Y2 etc. is **highlighted** (black). If the = sign is not highlighted the corresponding function will not be drawn. You can can up to 10 functions, but what is the point of drawing so many if they overlap?

Anyway, to change the graph style of the curve for a particular function, use arrows to move to the line, then use left arrow to the bit of line that appears**to the left of the Y**. Highlight the segment an press ENTER. Each time you press ENTER the style changes to another one. Beware of the unconnected bubble style. During the drawing it will show the position of the point being drawn, but at the end, the whole curve, so to speak, evaporates.

As to simultaneous graphs, if it is important to you to have the graphs drawn for all the curves at the same time, you can enforce that by pressing [MODE], and using down arrow to reach the 6th line**Sequential Simul**. Use the right arrow to highlight **Simul** and press ENTER.

Whether drawn sequentially or simultaneously, all graphs will be displayed, except for the ones with the unconnected bubble as style.
