You need a new hard drive. This error means your drive is on it's way out - it is not fixable, it can only be replaced. If I were you, I would copy as much data off the laptop as you can to either another computer or to an external drive as soon as possible and get the drive replaced now before it dies completely.
If you take it to a place that knows what it is doing, they could clone the disk to your replacement drive before it completely fails, but don't trust anyone to do this before taking a copy of all the data off yourself.
Ask yourself how much your photos, music, documents etc are worth to you!?!

If you have overclocked the computer then put everything back to standard, that can do it. Try reinstalling windows, and when asked repair the windows already installed. That will reverse any windows data corruption. Remove and reconnect the hard drive data cable, a loose connection can cause a SMART alarm. Download seatools and run the long test, it is a better way of checking if the alarm is correct. Switch the computer off for an hour, sometimes the SMART test just goofs off for no reason. Only then do you **** your underwear and buy a new hard drive.

SOURCE: I get a 1720 Smart Hard drive detects imminent

It means that the Seagate hard drive is near death. Backup all your data immediately, create a recovery cd starting from the recovery partition situated on your disk (if you haven't done this before or you weren't provided one when you bought it), replace the hard drive and reinstall.

SOURCE: 1720-smart hard drive detects imminent failure (failing attribute : 1)

This is a warning that your hard drive will fail in the near future. It is wise to backup your data frequiently so you won't lose your data when the hard drive fails.
The faults your hard drive is experiencing will cause the computer to slow down as it tries to read and write data to your hard drive.
There is nothing you can do to fix the hard drive except to replace it when it fails.

This warningmeans the hard disk will fail sometime in the near future. You need to back upyour data regularly before the hard disk fails or you will lose your data.
When the hard disk fails, you need to replace with a new one and installWindows on the new hard drive to get your laptop working again.

Seems that at least the boot sector of your hard drive is seriously damaged behind repair. I recommend replacing the hard drive with a new one, installing your Windows operating system on it, purchase an external USB hard drive box, install the hard drive into it & copy your data back to the new hard drive.

Reset factory default HP Mini 1035NR PC Notebook

SMART measures physical attributes of the hard drive. Reformatting won't help that. A bad SMART status alone doesn't mean your drive is failing, but combined with the delayed writing failures and the slow speed, I'd replace it ASAP.

Your S.M.A.R.T. is reading the attributes on your read only storage.

enter BIOS and under smart=disable
run a good diagnostic on the hard drive to determine any problems.
SMART just tells you of suspected problems or when things are beyond normal limits.
