Older Superior Brand Kegerator Freezing

I bought an older model kegerator about 7 months ago. The interior fan went out, I replaced it, and now the unit behind that fan (which I'm guessing drives the cooling) freezes to a solid block of ice overnight. I did initially have the temp set at 8. I defrosted, turned it down to about 6.5 - 7, and it froze up overnight again.

When I replaced the fan, the air is blowing back toward that cooling unit (or whatever it is:) ). I'm assuming that's correct.

Any ideas on what would suddenly cause this thing to start freezing up this severely?

Thanks
Chris (Schertz, TX)

Sounds like the fan can be running backwards. I'm not sure of you exact model, but it has to match the air flow of the original unit. Do you remember? Some manufacturers use reversable motors and are some what easy to reverse.

Good luck and hope this helps.

The only way I have found to seal those tops back down is with 100% silicone caulk, NOT LATEX OR BUYTAL, silicon.( We use 3m.) Then hold it down with cinder blocks for at least 24 hours then you are in business.

Kegerator not cooling

which fan , inside or out.. if outside condensor fan is running then it has a bad 175 capacitor or if the compressor is running then it is low on refrigerant. if the cond fan is not running then check thermostat.. you can do this by connecting the two wires together.. another way to check the compressor, cond fan is to reach under and unplug the wires going to comptessor and plug into a 12ga extention cord.

My older superior kegerator all of a sudden quit cooling, however it still runs and the fan runs. any thoughts? Is it junk or fixable?

It sounds like there is a freon loss or blockage. It is fixable. It might take a dryer change. Unplug the unit then look for this component
http://www.appliancezone.com/ShowProduct.aspx?ID=10656
and once you locate it SMACK IT (several times) with the handles of 2 TWO screwdrivers! Sometimes these little buggers get clogged with something in the capillary end. Just make sure you do NOT hit the capillary tube itself.

If that does not succeed then there was probably a loss of system freon. The leak will have to be located / repaired (my bet at a compressor connection) the system pumped into a vacuum and reserviced with freon.

I have an older beer cooler. the fan costantly runs but the refrigeration part of the beer cooler doesn't keep the keg cold? ? ? It's refrigerate is r12 cooled. Do you think I could just re charge the...

You would need to be a certified refrigeration technician to even buy R-12, since it is a CRC refrigerant. The kegerator probably doesn't have service ports so you would either have to braze a low-side port in or use a piercing valve, and fix wherever the refrigerant leaked out from. Basically, by the time you pay a refrigeration tech to do all this, it isn't worth it and you would be better off buying a new one

Beverage-Air Kegerator Not Staying Cold

It can take a very long time to get a keg of beer down in temperature. The heat transfer from a keg is slow due to the lack of air circulation inside the keg. You should also check your condenser coils, make sure they are clean. Door gasket should also be in good repair. Hope this helps.

Beverage air dd58 kegerator won't stay cold

The unit is probably low on gas again. If it lasts a month the leak may be difficult to find, as it may be a small leak. Those units don't hold a lot of gas. Have someone do a nitrogen leak check and fix the leak. If no leak is found, have them install a UV dye to help find the leak. :)
