Question about Refrigerators

1 Answer

We purchased a Jenn Air side by side refrigerator (JFC2089HES) about 15 months ago. The water dispenser worked well until yesterday, when it stopped dispensing water. Not a drop would come out. We first increased the temperature in the refrigerator, in case the water line had frozen. No luck. The light indicating it was time to change the filter had not come on, but since the manual says to change the filter at least once every 12 months, we decided this might be the problem. Following instructions found in the manual, we installed a new filter, Nothing happened, even though we followed the instructions and kept the button depressed for a full two minutes. No water. So, I removed the filter, and then reinstalled it. This seemed to work: after depressing the button for about a minute, the dispenser began to produce water very nicely. Unfortunately, it didn't last. This morning, the dispenser wouldn't produce a drop, regardless of how long we kept the button depressed. I removed the filter, and reinstalled it. Still no water. Any ideas?

Let's say it is the water solenoid.  Is this something that an ordinary homeowner can replace, or will we need someone who is experienced in refrigerator maintenance?  If it is something we could replace, how do we get to it or, stated differently, where is it?

    Thanks

Yes, this has helped,  However, before taking on the solenoid solution, I decided to take one more stab at what I believed would be a simpler solution -- namely, the possibility that the water line and/or the water in reservoir had frozen.  I removed the vegetable crisper drawers, which exposed the reservoir and the lines going in and out.  They seemed very cold, so I worked on them with a hair dryer for about three minutes.  Lo and behold, the water started flowing.  So, I will make a note of what you said about replacing the solenoid, just in case, but for the time being, I think I'm spared from taking  on this particular task.  Thanks.

Although it appears another solution (unthawing the reservoir using a hair dryer) solved the problem, I do appreciate the prompt response, and the very clear advice about how to locate and change the water solenoid.

This can be one of 2 problems,The 1st would be the water solenoid is going bad,or the water actuator in the door is not functioning correctly.I would check the solenoid 1st.

It is something you could replace,It is located on the rear of the refridgerator near the bottom,Where the water line attaches,It has a plug in style wiring harness and it is held in by 2 small screws.

You will need to shut the water off to the refridgerator and unplug the power while replacing it,but other than that,It is very simple.

    Hope this has helped.

My mom's jenn air side by side refrigerator randomly started dispensing water out of the front. I couldn't stop it until I opened the door. now nothing works on the dispenser but the light.

Sounds like a faulty inlet water solenoid valve. This is normally located on the back of the refrigerator and the water supply from your home connects to it. Be sure to shut off water supply to the solenoid valve before you remove it.

Check the water hose and make sure is not kinked.
The hose might be frozen as well.

Water to ice maker ok. but no water will come out dispenser

It sounds like the dual water inlet valve has failed for the water dispenser side. New one will cost $50-$60 online. If you feel comfortable check the voltage back to solenoid by depressing water dispenser switch to rule out the switch.

Jenn air french door water dispenser broken

You have two sides to your 67006531 Dual Water Inlet Valve, so it is very possible the side that controls the water flow for the dispenser is defective. Replace the 67006531 Dual Water Control Valve and I believe your fridge water will work fine.

I bought a used Jenn Air french door refrigerator model #JFC2089HES, but water will not dispense nor will it make ice. It's hooked up to a cold water supply under the sink which is working.

It sounds to me like you're going to have to do some serious electrical checking. There are two electrical solenoid water control valves right behind of the fiber cover where your water line connects to the refrigerator. One solenoid valve is for the water dispenser and the other is for the ice maker. They are mounted together, side by side, on the same metal mounting plate. You two sets of terminals on each solenoid. one set on each solenoid should be hot (register line voltage) when tested between the terminal and ground. the other set of terminals connect two the switches in the water dispenser and ice maker. If have someone push the dispenser switch while you have your ear close to the solenoids, you should hear a clicking sound. I have never seen both of the solenoid valves go bad at the same time. I believe you have a power supply problem to the solenoid assembly itself.

"change water filter" continues to flash when dispensing water

I believe your new Jen-Air has an old model number placed above your post. If you had a newer model nuber I could see if changes were made to the solution. The ods are no changes. I it possible you may have missed removal of te flilter plug? It also is your first time and to press the 2 buttons at same time for 8 to 10 seconds may be a little confusing. I bet after this time you will have this down to an art! here is what I could find without the vorrect model number if that is what happened or not.Jenn-Air
Press and hold the light and lock buttons until the change filter light flashes.
It is very easy to reset your filter indicator light on your Maytag refrigerator. Simply press and hold the light and lock buttons, on the dispenser, for about three (3) seconds, until the change filter light blinks.
Jenn-Air Refrigerators - Press and Hold The Light and Lock Buttons until the filter light flashes (usually 5-10 seconds).

We have a Jenn Air side by side, model JCD2389GEW. The ice dispensers work, the water does not. This started after I replaced the filter. I've checked and nothing is locked out. When you press the actuator pad to dispense water, you can hear a noise similar to a small pump which I assume is a solenoid attempting to open. Any ideas?

yes that does sound like a bad evap fan motor then unable to circulate air aorund and off hte evap thus building up frost.you can pull the wire leads of the fan motor and ck for 110v. to confirm that you are indeed getting power to the motor.
