Question about RCA 27F530T 27" TV
I have an RCA Model #27F520TYX5 and Mon night it started turning on and off by itself as well as switching channels. No ghosts here, I don't think so I just unplugged it before we went to bed. Yesterday I changed the batteries in the remote and it worked fine in the afternoon and evening. Today it started again............BUT now the remote does not work even with 3 sets of new batteries. I have to turn it on manually but as soon as I try to change a channel or adjust the volume manually the set turns off. I called Thompson's........ha...........they gave me the name of two repair shops nearby........one number was disconnected..........the other.........the prices were outrageous..........I could buy a new TV for what they wanted for service. Anyone have any suggestions? I unplug it and wait...........have no idea why the remote is not working anymore. I cleaned the sensor and the back vents............I am stumped. I like this TV but since it's less than 2 years old............I think maybe we will opt for another brand besides RCA if we need to get a new one. Thanks for any suggestions in advance in trying to get this one working before we have to make another purchase.

RF interference You most likely have a neighbor (someone nearby) who is inadvertently changing channels as well as turning your TV off and on. The above statement is most likely true if you have an "RF" (radio frequency) TV/video, if it is IR (infra-red) the likelihood is basically zero. Still the problem you mention is happening due to some sort of RF interference.

My RCA set just started recently doing the on/off issue too so, I decided to look on line and found many of you having the same syptoms. What I was experiencing was, no matter what button was pushed, it would turn off/on and also turn off/on by itself. I decided this past weekend I would take the back cover off mine, use compressed air with an air nozzle and blow the dust from every area I could. I particularly concentrated on the front control panel strip. I blew into the tact switches the best I could while I had it removed from where it is held in by two screws. Turned the set back on and realized they worked again. I was thrilled! Maybe this is a solution for some of you out there. It's worth a try.

Hi I have the same problem, but it is not just as easy as unplugging the power cord or turning the power strip off, when I am playing games or watching TV it will repeatedly turn itself on and off making it impossibly to use the TV. I tried having it unplugged for 4 hours but I still had no luck. I had this problem before in the past and after awhile the TV just mysteriously started working it's normal self again, but now after a couple years it is starting to do the same thing again. Any help would be greatly appreciated, being it is the only TV I own and cannot afford another one at the moment.
