Question about StairMaster SM916 StepMill
About every 10 seconds the stairs lose tension and revolve quickly for about 3 seconds and then revolve at the normal pace again.

Yes it normal it on the same premise as using a stair stepper the mechanical movement engage the electronics letting it know HeY!! it to work out!!!

console could be defective try to diagnose it by entering diagnostic codes from your manual
also check the mechanical parts inside , a hinge rod could have slipped out and has pinned the entire stairs
