Freezer works perfectly, but frigerator is not cooling properly

There is a damper door that directs cold air from the freezer and allows it into the refrigerator section. If it is not working properly the freezer will be fine but the fridge will be warmer than normal.

Also make sure that the fan in the freezer is running - it moves the air.

Freezer and frigerator not getting cold

Good Afternoon friend, thank you for your post!
Based off my understanding your Frigidaire refrigerator is not getting cold. This could be a possible issue with your sealed system, control panel, or wiring harness. I would recommend performing a reset on your refrigerator and you can do that by unplugging the power cord for at least ten minutes. If that does not help correct your issue since it could be one of the underlying issues you may need to seek assistance from a professional technician for proper diagnosis and repair. I hope this information is helpful to you. -Matt

Fridge isn't staying cold, the freezer works OK.

if your freezer is working fine and you hear your compressor running you could have a frozen drain tube or more than likely the evaperator motor fan has failed.this is the fan that circulates the cold air from freezer throughout frigerator.what kind of unit is it?side by side or top mount freezer or what?let me know

My Frigidaire model FRT18L4JB1 stopped working. I noticed that the freezer had stopped getting cold, while the fridge part was fine. What could be wrong with it? We've hardly used it at all, bought it...

Many times the refrigerator is turned of with the freezer door shut. This causes the fan motor to rust on the ensd of shaft. Remove back panel of freezer (unplug first) put a little 3n1 oil on the fan shaft give a spin then plug in and make sure the fan continue to run. Sea Breeze

Kenmore Top Freezer not getting cold (freezer or refrigerator), fan works. Occasional click down by compressor? Any advice appreciated. Trying to fix cheap as this is an 8 year old 2nd frigerator we keep...

Check your compressor relay- http://www.acmehowto.com/howto/appliance/refrigerator/check/compressorrelay.php

. Cut everything off for a few minutes then turn it back on and listen for a click from the compressor relay as the compressor tries to start.
Is the compressor motor running. If no check starter/overload relay.

Warm frigerator

Sounds like a defrost problem. Check to see if there is any frost buildup in the back wall of the freezer. If so, it is not defrosting as it should.
  • possible causes:
  1. bad defrost timer
  2. bad defrost heater (in freezer)
  3. bad thermo switch in freezer
If you don’t know what these are then unplug the machine and let the ice melt in the freezer overnight with the door open. Then try it the next day, if is cooling fine then you need to have a service person replace one of the above items.
if you already checked this and think it is a different problem then let me know, i will help you figure it out.

Cold freezer/warm refrigerator

Same problem with Frigidaire Gallery model#GLRT182SAW5 (dated 2002 on back of case)

Vents were blocked with ice. Vents (from top compartment to lower) located behind light. You can check by poking a chopstick up the (2) holes; be careful not to hit fan blades.

Solution:

- took freezer coil cover off in back; checked that defrost heater element was working (marked and rotated the timer in the hole next to light); checked that fan working. Found ice in the vents and defrost drip area. Got it out with hair dryer.

- cleaned compressor coils in back (check fan is rotating; also tweaked some of the compressor tubing bends to make them more smooth - read somewhere about a manufacturing defect ...); blew out drip tube from defroster while down there.

- Set the freezer control to WARM and the refrig control to COLD (THIS SHOULD IMPROVE AIR FLOW FROM TOP TO BOTTOM).

- Put thermometers in top and bottom. Checked that refrigerator cycles (not running continuously). Checked that cold air is coming down from (2) vents behind light.

OK: so far, so good. Lower compartment is 40 or under. Top is under 18.

CONCLUSION: Suspect marginal design. Had problems with another similar model where defroster ice doesn't drain correctly, pools and refreezes. Leading to blocked vents as well as blocked defroster drain and similar problem including dripping water from top to bottom and warm bottom.

MAYBE KEEPING THE FREEZER CONTROL AT WARM GETS AROUND THE PROBLEM?? ANYWAY, ITS WORKING FOR ME FOR NOW !!

My frigerator

This will get warm. If very hot check and clean coils in front, underneath. Also check fan behind rear panel. It should be turning when the unit is running. Also check for door not closing properly.
