Question about Black & Decker Garden

Open Question

The blade brake came apart,I have repaired it but it had pulled the wires out of connecting block .can you show me a wiring diagram. There is a two way connecting block with what looks like a diode connected across it,a line from the switch,a feed to the motor and two wires to the brake solenoid.

save yourself some money and go get a lawn mower solenoid and find a way to mount it yourself. I have done a johnson outboard and a tigershark jet ski this way with no problems.

My brake light will go will on/off when lever and pedal are depressed. And the tail light isn't working...and hasent for awhile. If I pull one or step on the other it will come in...if I tap the light...

Yamaha motorcycles of this vintage are notorious for having flaky electrical connections. Take a look at your fuse box. Do you still have the original fuse block, or has someone gradually (or all at once) replaced the stock fuse blocks with in-line fuses? I have owned a number of '78-82 Yamahas, and I've had to change out the fuse block on every single one of them.

While that might have some bearing on your tail light issue (have you checked with a voltmeter to make sure the bulb socket is getting power? Sometimes, there's enough corrosion in the socket to prevent good contact with the bulb), the more likely culprit is corrosion in one or more of the bullet connectors piecing your electrical harness together. In terms of troubleshooting, I would actually start with the ground side, as a poor ground gives exactly this type of flaky "sometimes on, sometimes off" performance.

Start with your brake bulb, rather than your tail light, because you know that power is at least sometimes getting to that socket. Find the black negative wire coming out of the socket. Even before you do any kind of wiring trace, clip a temporary ground wire onto that terminal of the bulb socket and a frame or engine bolt--or even right back to the negative terminal of the battery. There's not a lot of amperage being passed through this bulb, so you can use a thin, Radio Shack level jumper cable or simply make your own with two alligator clips and a length of insulated wire. At any rate, once you've grounded the bulb socket, try the brake switches again to see if the bulb now lights up reliably. There's a pretty good chance that it will. If that's the case, trace the black ground wire to each of its friction fit connections. Pull each connection apart, clean the connectors, and reseat everything. Continue until you've gotten all the way to the official ground. Or, if you get tired to this exercise, you can splice a fresh ground into the wire. As the wiring bundle has a common ground, this may actually help a number of components, not just your brake light or tail light.

If adding a good ground doesn't fix your intermittent bulb problem, you'll need to trace the positive side of things. Here, based on my experience with XS650s, I would suggest that you start tracing at the fuse block. I don't know what kind of metal Yamaha used, but those fuse blocks get brittle and don't always keep a good connection with the fuse or with the wires feeding into the fuse block, even if they look good in a visual inspection. Using the continuity function (or the volt meter function, with the negative cable clipped to ground), start tracing the wiring to each connection point, again pulling apart each connecting block to clean the connecting pins. Because Yamaha wraps all its wires into bundles, this will be frustrating work--it'll be easiest if you just start with testing each connecting block and checking from continuity from there. That way, you don't have to unwind any of the wrapping unless or until you find a bad link. Yamaha wires rarely shed their insulation; problems are almost always caused by tarnish at the connectors.

Good luck finding the bad connecting block, bad bulb socket, or bad ground that's keeping your lights from operating properly. The XS650 is a bulletproof bike that's great fun to ride. The electrical gremlins are a relatively minor problem in the grand scheme of things.

After checking the fuses, try with the steering wheel column tilted all the way up, There is a connector at the base of the steering wheel column, that the truck side of the harness can get tight on, and slowly pull the connector apart.<br />Behind the knee panel is this connector. Pull it apart, and check the pins for discoloration and make sure the connector tab lock still works ( most of the time, this is the 1st thing to brake ).<br />This is it repaired with some stove wire, zip ties can also be used.<br /><img src="/uploads/images/2EAD21C.jpg" /><br />

The cricut blade holder doesn´t go up or down.

My housing was not going up or down. Every time i wanted to make a cut it dragged and cut shapes in half. So when I took it apart I pushed it up and down myself and noticed that it was very difficult. So where you see the coils, I lightly sprayed WD40 (my cricut is out of warranty, I would not advise to take apart if you are still under a warranty). I lightly sprayed until it was easy to move up and down. When your done be sure to wipe any access WD40 that dripped to the bottom. This fixed mine and thank goodness because I was close to pulling out my hair! Hope this helps someone else!

Tail light & turn light on left side doesn't work---can it be a buser & if so where is it -in windstar xl ?

1.The fuses for those circuits have "blown." 2.Brake light switch mounting is not properly adjusted. 3.A connector plug somewhere in the circuit (s) has become "unplugged," or loose. 4.A conductor [wire] somewhere in the circuit has been cut, broken, "pinched," or pulled apart. Corrosion has occurred inside any one or more of the connector plugs, or at any connection/splice/ground, in the circuit. Corrosion can "block" the flow of electrical current just the same as if a wire were cut. 5.The brake light and turn signal switches have become defective [this is usually the "last" thing to fail, and in this case very highly unlikely].

Where does the blade brake spring attach on an MTD 42 inch deck with manual PTO? One end connects to the blade brake pivot arm, but the manual is unclear as to where the anchor point is.

the other end goes on the pulley engagement swingarm so when you turn the blades on the spring pulls the blade brake away from the blade pulley so the blade can turn. hope this helps

Bolt comes loose and rip cord is yanked from hand

  1. block off the blade and driver assembly with a 2x4 to keep it from moving
  2. remove the flywheel nut (regular hand force should be sufficient)
  3. tap the 3 holes on the flywheel (if they aren't already threaded) using 1/4inch 20national tap set
  4. remove the flywheel using a flywheel puller -- a harmonic balancer puller which matches the tecumseh bolt pattern on the flywheel also works using 3 1/4inch thread (20national, 2inch long) bolts with washers
  5. NOTE: (if the blade was removed/reinstalled, tighten the blade to manufacturer's spec of 60lbs) before installing the new flywheel key
  6. remove the sheared flywheel key
  7. clean up the flywheel (wipe off all the dirt and grease)
  8. install the new flywheel key (part 611004 for toro 20016)
  9. install the flywheel (pull the bail brake handle to get the ball-brake inside the flywheel)
  10. tighten the flywheel nut to manufacturer's spec of 37.5lbs
  11. prime the gas bulb, give it a pull and mow away

Hi please check all the wiring connections as you must have disconected the power soarce feeding the key switch to the starter.
Start around the engine then the battery, check the seat switch , brake/ clutch pedal , & the mower deck switches .
One wire is just disconnected or the connection is broken so check all connections by unconecting & reconnecting them as it may even be a corroded wire that has been disturbed when being cleaned.
