You need to make sure the belt is on the roller correcty, make sure is at the red position when putting the part back on with the belt on the hook, push the pedal to highest (off the ground) position to ensure you put it on correctly, then turn the fixing clip thing to secure it, then once its on turn the panel around to green position, belt will be back on, once you get used to it you'll be ok,

My kirby heritage II vacuum hose has a cut near the end of the metal nozzle. Is there a way to replace just the hose or even just cut off the damaged section and reattach to the metal nozzle?

We do carry a brand new Heritage II hose here. I do not know how you would cut and reattach the hose without losing hose integrity. You can try submerging the end in warm almost hot water and pulling off the end, cut the hose, and squeeze the end back in. But your hose will be shorter and I am not sure if it will work depending on how it is torn.

I have power but my Kirby Heritage will not ****.

If you take the head off, the part with the brush roller in it, off the vacuum cleaner and look to the left of the hole you will find a black sort of rectangular box with two screws on at the top and one at the bottom. This part is called the dead man switch. You will see a silver metal rod with a flat end sticking out of the top. If alligned properly, when the head is attached or the tool hose it turns on the vacuum cleaner. This may be out of allinement. To fix it remove both screws. You will see at the bottom of the another sliver rod with a circle at the end that goes back inside the machine. Take a neddle noise plyer and bend the circle part slightly. Reattach the rod and replace the screws. Depress the top flat part with a flat head screw driver and see if the machine come on. If so your done, if no follow the same steps again till the machine comes on.

Carbon Brushes wearing out quickly on Kirby Heritage II

4 possible reasons.
1 – one or both bearings are worn so armature (rotating part) wobbles as it is spinning and cause motor brushes to wear fast. Solution – change bearings too.
2 – Whoever replaced brushes – did not use some brush seating sticks to make cmutator smother and contour brushes to the shape of the comutator (not likely). Solution – appropriately install new set of brushes.
3 – Comutator is so warped that seating sticks do not help anymore – solution – new armature or turn the old armature.
4 – The fact that ONLY ONE brush was worn may mean that there is something wrong with the brush or housing. Maybe it could not move freely within the housing? I think this may be most likely cause it it may be a combination of all 4.Is it worth to fix? Hmm depends how much will it be. If this is 100+ - I’d say get newer Kirby for 300 ad enjoy the tech drive (Heritage does not have tech drive so it is much harder to vacuum with than the newer models)

I can't figure out how to get the belt engaged on my Kirby Heritage 84. There are very simple instructions on the front assembly; however, the belt doesn't engage with the rotor, and the beater bar does not spin. When I have the front twisting section on the "Belt On" setting, it seems as though it actually disengages the belt. I see no faults in any of the mechanical parts, but just can't get the belt to go on the rotor.
(I purchased this machine @ a garage sale on Saturday. It's in perfect condition.)
My vacuum cleaner is a Kirby 84 Legend.
Help! Jennifer

Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. You can always check your owner’s manual but the Kirby has a dial on the front of the machine and you needs to dial the belt off of the fan pulley counter clock wise and to check to see if the Kirby bell housing will release @ the top so that you can remove the bell housing. If not then remove the bottom plate and take out the brushroll on one side and then slide the belt off of the brushroll. Then you can slide the new belt onto the brushroll to the center and then re-insert the Kirby brushroll with the screw heads facing downward then you can replace the bottom plate – then use the Kirby spoon or hook to dial the belt onto the fan pulley clock wise. Once that is done then plug in the Kirby and try to vacuum to see if the Kirby is picking up properly, if not repeat the process. If you have a question, feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area. So if you need further assistance, please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions.

How do you use and

Kirby has a spin brush that is round on the newer Kirby’s and it works on the suction from the vacuum and it fits on the end of the vacuum hose but it does not fit into corners very well or your can take some Kirby shampoo in the spray water bottle and use a kitchen scrub brush for the corners. Other wise you can use the actually Kirby Shampooer of which is very hard and unfriendly; the spin brush would be my selection. You can check with your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area and also in the yellow pages. Also you can call the Kirby factory to see if they can direct you. The Kirby factory is listed below:

take the cover off to get to the wiring and check the brushes - that is where the clear-insulated black & green wires terminate at the motor sides under the plastic caps

Roller brush doesn't move

Here is a online guide....it's for the G series Kirbys. They're similar enough that it should help. Pay special attention to the belt lifting process...it's exactly the same as for the Heritage II, and it's also where I think your problem lies. I have a Heritage II manual available too! Hope I have helped...
