SOURCE: non- system disk or disk error

This means it cannot read the HDD in the machine. Have you left a disk in the CD/DVD slot or a usb drive in one of the usb ports?

You may have to insert your operating system disk in the CD/DVD drive and do a repair installation.

SOURCE: non system disk or disk error

This error can be a couple of things. If the "boot block" on the disk has become faulty, the system won't recognize that the disk has an operating system on it and will generate this error message. If the disk is defective completely, the same error will occur. If you have a boot floppy or CD, try re-writing the boot block on the disk. If that fails to resolve the problem, the disk is defective and will need to be replaced.

Are you sure there is no usb / CD in the computer?

Try pressing F8 when the computer boots and select the HDD as the boot device.

If this works, you'll need to reset the boot order in the CMOS / BIOS.

Have you changed the boot order recently? or do you have a USB key connected to your server? are you able to connect to the management interface (hp ilo, dell drac) to see if you had any raid or other hardware issues?

Hp labtop non system disk error

Hi, this error most often occurs when you try to boot your computer up with either a flash drive (USB drive) or a CD/DVD already in the computer. The system checks these drives first for operating systems before the hard drive, and when it doesn't find your operating system it displays that error. Remove the disk or flash drive and try to boot your computer again, and the error should go away.

Non system disk or disk error appears when power up

make sure you dont have any cd's or floppy disc inside the drives during powerup. Most the time this happens is when the Boot setup has one of the CD/Floppy drives before the Hard-drive in the boot up list. You can change his by going into Bios.

I visualise this msg on pc 'non disk system error or disk error'

This error is caused by the boot device (hard drive, DVD, etc) not having the required Operating System files. You may need to find a different Boot Device, like maybe a DVD, with the boot files on it. Boot from DVD and reinstall HD files.

Non-System Disk or Disk Error results when the Basic Input/Output System (BIOS) cannot find the boot sector or the master boot record is missing or damaged; i.e. the device does not have bootable media. The BIOS searches drives in the order usually specified in the CMOS Setup. This order is often, but not always, A: (floppy drive), C: (first partition on the hard disk)… The error will occur during startup if the CMOS is set so the BIOS seeks the floppy drive first and a non-bootable (or blank) floppy is in (was left in) the floppy drive. Other causes include:

No bootable partition on a hard disk drive
  • A defective hard disk drive
  • The CMOS drive settings (parameters) are not correct for the boot device
  • Defective floppy
  • Defective floppy drive
  • A virus
