MTD Pro crawls without pedal depressed/won't shift

My MTD pro transmission is continually engaged without pedal depressed (manually raise pedal does not help). If mower is actually pulling (i.e. uphill), it is almost impossible to change gears, or pull it out of gear.

Why won't my 1998 chrysler cirrus shift into gear?

I'm not familiar with YOUR Chrysler, BUT... my brother' father-in-law had a Buick [about 1998 model] that would NOT shift into any gear UNLESS the brake pedal was FULLY DEPRESSED!!!!!

I could move the shift lever into any of the indicator positions, but the transmission would not engage if my foot was not firmly on the brake pedal while selecting a gear position!

Why won't 2003 pontiac grand prix. shifter come out of park?

Shift - interlock system problem .
Automatic Transmission Shift Lock Control System
The automatic transmission shift lock control system is a safety device that prevents an inadvertent shift out of PARK when the engine is running. The driver must press the brake pedal before moving the shift lever out of PARK position. The system consists of the following components:
• The automatic transmission shift lock control solenoid
• The automatic transmission park lock solenoid
• The automatic transmission shift lock control switch
• The transmission range switch
With the ignition in the ON position, battery voltage is supplied to the automatic transmission shift lock control switch. The circuit continues through the normally-closed switch to the automatic transmission shift lock control solenoid. The transmission range switch provides a path to ground for the automatic transmission shift lock control solenoid in the PARK position. With the automatic transmission shift lock control solenoid energized the shift lever is mechanically locked in the PARK position. When the driver presses the brake pedal, the contacts in the automatic transmission shift lock control switch open, de-energizing the automatic transmission shift lock control solenoid. This allows the shift lever to move from the PARK position. When the shift lever is out of the PARK position the controlled ground contacts in the transmission range switch open. This prevents the automatic transmission shift lock solenoid from energizing when the vehicle is out of the PARK position.

I have a mtd riding mower that will not start and will not move just by depressing the clutch...how do i move it

generally you are going to make sure the transmission is in neutral and the parking brake is not engaged. some have a parking brake, some don't. Those that do often have it as a tilt the clutch pedal forward when depressed engagement others have a specific lever or button. if you can not get the rear wheels to turn freely, you can put a floor jack under it and wheel it about with that.

I have a 2002 MTD lawn tractor, model # 13AF693G118, that will not crank. No click, nothing. As we have had this problem on and off sice it was given to us 3 yrs ago and have replaced the battery and the...

The Operator's Manual gives instructions for adjustments. You need to confirm that the lift lever and clutch pedal safety switches are being fully depressed. Also, there is a safety switch under the seat.

From your description of problem, try pulling the lift handle past the top notch of the index bracket with one hand and turning key with other and see if it starts. I had to do this with mine because the lift shaft assy is bent and required pulling farther to engage safety switch. You may need to replace the lift shaft assy ($50)

Hope this helps.

Transmission question

hi i will try help, well yes it will have adverse results on his gear box if he is putting it in drive and then reverse before the vehicle stops going forward, ile explain, when you engage the gear and drive forward, the centrifugal force is sent to the torque converter This engages reverse gear within the transmission, giving the ability for the vehicle to drive backwards. In order for the driver to select reverse, they must come to a complete stop push the shift lock button in (or pull the shift lever forward in the case of a column shifter) and select reverse. Not coming to a complete stop can cause severe damage to the transmission. Many modern automatic transmissions have a safety mechanism in place, which does to some extent prevent (but does not completely avoid) inadvertently putting the car in reverse when the vehicle is moving forwards. This mechanism usually consists of a solenoid-controlled physical barrier on either side of the Reverse position, which is electronically engaged by a switch on the . Therefore, the brake pedal needs to be depressed in order to allow the selection of reverse. Some electronic transmissions prevent or delay engagement of reverse gear altogether while the car is moving. Some shifters with a shift button allow the driver to freely move the shifter from R to N or D, or simply moving the shifter to N or D without actually depressing the button. However, the driver cannot put back the shifter to R without depressing the shift button to prevent accidental shifting, especially at high speeds, which could damage the transmission.so hope that answers your question and end the feud lol, please vote thanks
