My flash used to automaticly pop up when it was needed. Now not only does it not pop up but when I pop it up it does not always flash. I lookd in the setting on menu but I don't see a place that I can make it reset. Any suggestions?

when you pusht o take a photo does it display an error on the top screen? make sure the lens is locked in including checking the ring on the lens next to the camera base.

The lightning bolt icon in viewfinder blinks when flash is not ready, this can happen if flash doesnt pop up all the way, or if flash strobe tube is bad.

I'm not sure of your problem, but if I understand it correctly, the flash does not pop down on its own, you just push it down and it locks down.

My d40 did the same thing and the guy at Wolf Camera said a sensor is bad. The falsh was up but every time I focused it tried to pop up the flash again but it would not fire.
I had 2 options. Send it off for 8 weeks to Nikon at a $240 minimum or buy a flash attachment for $100. I chose the $100 option.

When you are viewing images with the histogram showing, press the down arrow on the command dial and the screens will scroll through various overlays until you reach the viewing screen you want.
