SOURCE: service repair printer

There is a counter inside the printer, which counts the amount of use the printer has done. When this counter reaches a preset limit, it shuts the printer down and displays the message you have mentioned. There is a reset program on the net to reset this counter and enable the printer to work again. I cant remember the name of the program, but I'm sure you will find it, if you google r300 reset.

The printer has a waste ink pad, which basicallyis a plastic container with felt in it. When the printer cleansthe heads, either as commanded by you, or initially before printing,it spits out some ink into this pad. The printer remembers anapproximate count of ink that has gone into the pad in a "protectioncounter", and signals when the counter reaches a predefined limit.

Ofcourse, this pad has a limited capacity. Theoretically, you should takeyour printer to a service workshop for waste pad replacement andresetting of the counter - the printer is designed not to let the wasteink overflow and leak under the printer.
Of course the limit is setwith a safety margin, for a worst-case scenario, when you "pour" inkconstantly and it has no time to dry.

If you wantto be completely inline with manufacturer's specifications, andespecially if the printer is still under warranty, you should contactEPSON service to do the right thing.

If however you want to liveon the edge, you can download a special utility to reset theprotection counter, replacing the felt or cleaning it yourself, or - ifyou are even more adventurous - without replacing the pad altogether, counting on the fact, that the waste ink dries out all the time and inpractice the pad should accept twice as much as the producer assumed -but don't place your printer on that antique table or sofa afterwards...
If you want to give it a try, go to this webpage to download the software (TIP: DON'T be tempted to change any other settings, as you may render your printer useless):
Good luck!

Epson programmed their printer to monitor the waste ink counter and your printer has reached the maximum value allowed, you have to reset your printer to clear the waste ink counter.

You may read the information regarding "end of life" and "waste ink counter" here:

To reset the counter, download re-setter program here, install and follow the instruction in the web site.
