There is no way to lock, or unlock the keyboard. Please try booting your system, and press F2 and see if you can enter the BIOS. Try this with the internal keyboard. If this does not work, then try running the keyboard test from the Dell Diagnostics. The internal keyboard should work, even when an external keyboard is attached. See if the keyboard will work in the diagnostics. If not then you have a keyboard failure

My Dell XPS 400 keyboard and mouse are not working. The F and Enter keys are working. Please help


Try plugging in a different USB keyboard and see if it still does the same thing. If so try running diagnostics on yourcomputer to see if you have a hardware problem. You should have a CD that camewith the computer that has "Diagnostics and Utilities" listed undercontents. Boot form this CD and run the extended diagnostics.
If you don't have the CD you can go to www.support.dell.com and select "Drivers and Downloads". Enterthe "service tag" (serial number) of the computer. You can thendownload "Diagnostics" .
To boot from a CD disk, power on your computer and tap the key tobring you to the "One time boot menu". Insert the CD into the top CD/DVD driveand then select "Boot from CD/DVD" and hit key. Select the"Run the 32 Bit Dell Diagnostics.

If all tests pass then reload OS ( Operating Software ).

Unable to type on keyboard. The mouse works fine but I can not type any text. unsure how this happened??? currently using a different computer for help.


"I'mlooking for drivers and downloads". If you don't have the proper versionof Adobe you will be prompted to install it. Once installed return to"drivers and downloads" and enter the "service tag",(serialnumber) of the laptop. Dell keeps a listing of drivers for every customer'scomputer they sell.


To boot from a CD disk, power on your computer and tap the key to bringyou to the "One time boot menu". Insert the CD into the top CD/DVD drive andthen select "Boot from CD/DVD" and hit key. Select the "Runthe 32 Bit Dell Diagnostics.

If all tests pass then reload OS ( Operating Software ).

My dell inspiron seems to be stuck in hibernation mode. The screen flashes on for just a few seconds when i turn on the computer then the screen goes black. What can i do?


During the boot process you will see on the screen to press a certain key to enter setup
Press and hold that key during the boot up process to enter BIOS you can load failsafe defaults or load optimized defaults ,press escape then press f10 to save to cmos to restart
or
During the boot process tap the f8 button three times this will boot into safe mode where the only things
working will be your mouse and keyboard enabling you to attempt to repair your computer

Laptop keyboard not operational


If you replaced the keyboard with a Dell replacement 1501 keyboard and it still doesn’t work then yes the motherboard will probably have to be replaced. If your son spilled water on the laptop it could clear up after it completely dries. If it was juice, soft drink or sport drink the laptop could develop other issues. The syrup in these kinds of drinks don’t evaporate, they just remain there and accumulate foreign particles like dust, hair, dirt and eventually start to corrode electrical contacts like acid. Similar to the terminal posts on a car battery.
