Just had the same problem- the socket where you plug in the adapter had shorted out-needed to be resodered-no big~100$
BUT my ac adapter was bad as well- may have caused the short (they are cheap on ebay)

Flashing orange light, third from the left on the front edge, left side. Just replaced the battery yesterday.....

I had same problem. PC wouldn't even start at all. New cord & battery.Computer repairman said- remove battery, remove electrical power (& unplug the cord from power source :) don't electrocute yourself), then press the start button for at least 30 seconds. I pressed it for about a minute. Replace battery & power, (don't forget to plug the cord into electricity again), and press start button. That resets something inside.
It worked!!!! I couldn't believe it. I almost gave it away before I called repair guy. Yikes. :)

My Dell Inspiron B130 will not turn on

The battery is critically low, indicating that it is not getting a charge from the AC adapter. If the system will not power on from the AC adapter, then the motherboard power connection is suspect.

Motherboards are about $100 on EBay

Laptop is plugged in. Notice on screen that battery was low, even with it plugged in, and now no power lights on. Adapter light is still on indicating outside power supply on. Removed and reinserted...

The batteries do go bad overtime and will no longer hold a charge but the laptop should still work as long as the power cord is connected. If it still does not work with the power cord connected then it is most likely the power cord, these can go bad, but make sure that the power is securely connected and that if it is plugged into a power strip that it has not been turned off, try another outlet just to rule it out as well.

Wont power up, power cord good. once plugged into laptop power cord stops working

As long as you are abslolutely sure the power cord is functional, without a more indepth analysis, it seems/sounds like the AC connection to the board is broken.

To rule out this conclusion as the failure point, see if you can borrow/buy or better yet, recharge your battery {assuming it has no charge left at this point}

Stick the charged battery into your rig and if it works, yes. The AC connection is broken - nothing a little bit of soldering won't fix.
If it works, will need to ask more 'protocol questions to narrow down the situation'.

...when you reflect on the usage of the laptop, is there a bit of manhandling when connecting the power cord? Do you run it mainly plugged into AC? Dell is infamous for dodgy AC connections strongly lending credence to a broken AC connection to the mobo.

My inspiron laptop wont turn on after I replaced

Verify that you obtained an exact replacement power adapter for the Dell. If it is an exact replacement then try this. Disconnect power adapter. Remove battery. Reconnect power adapter without the battery. If it turns on, then power off and place battery back in. Then try again. If problem returns, there could be a problem with the battery itself.

My battery shows up. says 0% remaining (charging), but it never charges and shuts off as soon as the power cord is unpluged.

1) Could be the battery is bad.
2) The charging port could be damaged
3) The adapter charge cord could be damaged
4) If not too expensive, I'd try a new battery first or better yet, if you could find someone with a like model to test their battery in your pc and see if it charges in your machine.
5) Ask a local shop if they'd be able to troubleshoot it for you.

Help! My laptop is dead with a new battery

  • The battery you were sold was generic ( not genuine ) and does not work with this PC. Although the specs may be the same, the generic battery is either faulty ( warranty ) or does not fully suit your PC.
  • Best to take the battery to the supplier and explain what has unfolded since you put in the battery, presuming the unit worked fine before hand, and now does not work ( even with an overnight charge ) - you could safely presume the problem stems from the battery itself in one way or another.
  • Some devices ( Laptops, Video Cameras and so forth ) behave badly or simply will not work at all without the genuine makers battery.

Dell B130 won't charge

From my experience with 3 DELL laptops, the problem was resolved by replacing the system board. Apparently the port the AC adaptor plugs into becomes damaged (provided you have determined it is not a battery needing replacemnet or a defective AC adaptor) and that cannot be fixed without replacing the whole system board.
