Question about Sharp XL-HP500 CD Shelf System

1 Answer

Original speaker wires lost - can they be replaced with commercial speaker wire, and if so will longer wire lengths work just as well?

I lost the speaker wires to this Sharp system during a move, and Sharp charge over $20 for new ones. Can the wires simply be replaced with a couple of lengths of standard speaker wire, say from Home Depot? If so, is it possible to use lengths that will be two or three feet longer than the ones that came with the equipment, and so place the speakers a bit further apart?

I checked my Sharp system and it uses ordinary wire for the speakers. The difference in length won't matter. $20 for replacement wire? They must be kidding.

SOURCE: Speakers Not Working

Probably not My friend. These self type audio units use an audio output IC and if it blows out you must replace it. Its a soldered in device and is not a consumer replaceable part ,unless you have some know how on desoldering and soldering. This repair should run somewhere around 85 to 125 bucks to repair. Good Luck

SOURCE: sharp sd nx10_out signal trouble

Try all of the spaekers on the channel you know works. If all are fine, swap the speaker lines to test them. Is the input a DVD player on RCA cables? A bad signal cable from a component can be a source for problem. Connect the speakers directly to the amp(if possible) bypassing the sub box. If all works without the box, suspect bad crossover or in the self-powered boxes a bad amp.

SOURCE: Protect is displayed on the

Why are you asking instead of doing?

Generally speaking, an amp attempts to protect itself from heat, shorts, overloads and operator exuberance by refusing to turn on or stay on.

Overloads can be from excessive periods of high output or marginally low impedance loading by the speakers; and shorts would be wiring issues or a speaker blowing up.

You should be able to feel if it's hot. WHY is it overheating? Make sure it has sufficient ventilation on all sides and that vent holes are not blocked by dust balls. Ensure the fan (if equipped) is running as designed (some only operate on demand). Clean dust and debris from it.

If the amp comes back on after cooling, you're lucky. They only have so many self-protection cycles in their lives so continuously resetting or cycling their power without addressing the cause can do more harm than good.

If it protects immediately on a cool power up you should disconnect the speaker connections and try it 'naked'. If it comes up then diagnose which lead(s) are shorted. If it does not come up the problem is internal and should be left to an experienced and competent hands-on tech.

Check for loose speaker connections at the speaker as a root cause for intermittent shutdown.

Unless the wires were equipped with specific connectors, ordinary speaker wire will do.

Precor c954i error 16

Precor Error 16, AC Input Voltage Too Low Probable Cause 1. AC input voltage is incorrect.
2. Treadmill operating on undersized AC wiring and/or is drawing high current.
Corrective Action
  1. Verify AC feed into the building's circuit breaker is correct and connected to the proper transformer tap.
  2. The AC wiring must be sized to handle 20 amps of current over the loop length of the AC wiring. Voltage drop across the AC input wiring is a result of the length of the wire run multiplied by the amount of current being demanded by the treadmill. The longer the run and the higher the current the large the wire must be.Verify the unit is connected to an isolated and dedicated 20 amp circuit.

Rear Speaker delay

It will not be the length of the wires, as the signal travels at close to the speed of light!

If the connections to the speakers are bare wires the cause is probably that you have wired the speakers with opposing polarity. Check the wiring and ensure that positive (red) is wired to positive on the speakers.

The speaker cable should be marked in some way to indicate which core is which. It doesn't matter which core you use provided that you wire red to red and black to black, or whatever other colours your output and input have.

Receiver turns off 2 secons after turning on

I had the same issue a while back. Turns out one of my speaker wires had a pinch in it that shorted when the volume got too high. Try replacing each wire with a short length one at a time until it no longer happens and then change out that entire length.

Hopefully this is the fix you need, because it is certainly the cheapest one I know of!!

NEED EXTENSON CABLES FOR 2 SPEAKERS

Hi,

Normally, speaker wires of any length are available from most electronic stores and/or audio/video stores. Even those shops that do car audio installations would have them in their inventory. The only requirement/specification you would need is the power output of your home theater and the required length. The longer the distance, the better the bigger the wires. Speaker wires always come in pairs and have color coding to designate +/-.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information. Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

BMW 528i AM Radio Reception Problem

An external antenna will make an improvement over the embedded one. The longer, the better.
You can re-use the original speakers & wiring for an after market setup. You should obtain a Haynes service manual for your car, as it has the wiring diagram for the factory radio, including color codes of the wiring. You will need this info to re-use the factory speakers & wiring.
