Computer Will Not See MP3 Player...

I have tried hooking my Opal 4202 up to a computer that had Vista and another computer that had XP installed. Neither one of the computers will see the mp3 player. How can I get the mp3 player to be acknowledged by either version of windows?

Boot error please format unit, this is my daughters, that I bought her a couple of years ago, she hasn't used it much and of coarse I can't find the installation disk.

Using Xp and or Vista you will not need drivers for your player. It should show up under hardware in device manager as a portable device, if it has a yellow exclamation mark or a question mark under other devices delete it and right click the small computer icon at the top of the tree and chose scan for changes. Then chose portable device. Next Xp or Vista will want Media player 10 or higher to see your player, also you may have to turn off any anti virus that may cause a problem. Try hooking up on the back side of your computer, the USB ports on the rear of a computer are set up to power such devices better than the front panel USB ports. Leave it hooked up for a while to be sure it has charged some.

I would have to say that vista is the problem. Many people are happy with there vista, mainly becuse they only have programs that fit it. But i definitely think that microsoft could have done better. So i would have to say that because you have XP, you should use it. And if there is a button that says sync or connect, try it. I am happy that i could help:)

Mine didn't recognize either, so what I did is go into the device manager, find the opal in the listings, double-click, disabled the device, re-enabled it, at which time it shows that there's a firmware error. I then re-installed the driver from the cd, unplugged the opal, plugged it back in, and for whatever reason, the computer then recognized the opal as a mass storage device, instead of a portable music player. The computer now sees it everytime, and all I have to do is drag and drop any files I want into the opal. Works like a charm. Hopefully RCA will provide an updated firmware program in the near future, but this might work for you for now. Good luck!

Hi, you can try to upgrade the player's firmware, you can download it from the RCA Website (moz-screenshot.jpgmoz-screenshot-1.jpghttp://support.rcaaudiovideo.com/downloads.aspx?product=187), the firmware it's the second app listed.
If your computer doesn't recognize the player, you'll have to turn it off and keep "PLAY" pressed for 10 seconds while connecting it to the USB port, then update the firmware.

RCA mp3 player software won't install on my computer.

You don't need the installer- Windows Media Player will find the device, then click on "Sync" at the top to download the music to your player.

This is the BEST solution. I just had the same problem and ran across this solution and it actually worked. If you are experiencing this problem, this is the only fix I found and I have tried several. Solution #2 posted on Dec 30, 2007 4%20stars_w.png

I had this problem. Backing up data wasn't a concern though, as I hadn't anything on the OPAL yet.
First I let the OPAL charge up for 3 hours. Then I made sure it was powered off. I had previously downloaded onto a PC the firmware update for the M4004 which also works on the M4008 and other OPAL's. I plugged the OPAL into the PC, and booted up the PC. After installing the firmware package in the PC, you get an install screen for the new firmware with a format option for the OPAL. I selected that option, but the "start" button was greyed out as the PC still couldn;t see the OPAL. I pressed the reset (paperclip in the back of the OPAL) for about 15 seconds, than held down the "Play" button and waited. Eventually the software recognized the OPAL, and started to format it.
If you get a dialogue to restart the PC, press NO! You have to read the instructions that come with the install. Eventually I reformatted the drive, and installed new firmware.
BTW, there was no picture folder after I did this, so I just created a new folder named picture and it worked fine for the thumbnail pics I threw in there. Also when I use a MAC with the OPAL, I power the MAC up with the OPAL off but attached. After drag and dropping files into the OPAL, I power down the MAC. After power down the OPAL will after a pause give the "building databases please wait" messages, then when done go to the start menu. It is difficult on a MAC to eject the OPAL, it just reappears on the desktop so shutting down is the only safe way to administer the device. But to update firmware, which is easily corrupted BTW if you unplug the thing at the wrong time, you HAVE to do it on a PC operating system. Might work on an Intel MAC with a PC OS though.
Hope this helps.
