Sounds like it is the valve seats. However normally it will stop smoking after is runs for a while if that is the problem. Does it run good? Because if it isn't the valve seats then it is the rings. Or a big scratch in the cylinder wall. Then most of the time it will loose compression. If it isn't smoking real bad then you can get an additive to put with your oil that will make it stop, maybe? It is about ten dollars and you can get is at most autoparts stores. It will just take a couple ounces of it. Follow the directions for how many qts of oil you have. After you change the oil in the motor take a magnet and run it through the oil and see if there is pieces of the rings in it.

My 2006 Hyundai Getz blows smoke on start up after a long drive at moderate speed but does not do it after short around town trips, can anyone help me?

What color smoke blue means oil burning. White means coolant burning. From your description I am assuming blue. If this is the case you have either groove in your piston walls or damage piston ring. The reason for more smoke on long trip is the faster your speed more oil gets pumped into engine and the piston moves quicker and with the engine damage the piston ring can't remove all oil and it burned up when spark plugs ignition

What should the compressin be on a briggs

What is the compression ratio for my engine?

Briggs & Stratton side valve (L-Head) engines use a compression ratio of 6 to 1.Our Overhead Valve (OHV) engines use a compression ratio of 8.5 to 1.

What would cause my engine to "puff" smoke while it runs?

White/blue smoking usually indicates the burning of oil. Causes to this condition include:
  • Overfilling the crankcase with oil
  • Incorrect oil grade
  • Operating engine at greater than a 15 degree angle
  • Inoperative crankcase breather
  • Crankcase air leak
  • Blown head gasket
  • Worn cylinder and/or rings
  • Turning/Tilting the engine on its side for any reason (storage, changing oil, etc). If the engine has to be tilted, ensure the spark plug is facing upwards to help prevent oil from escaping the crankcase.
Also, be aware that any small air leak can cause an excess of air entering the crankcase and will create a higher oil mist than the breather is capable of handling. The excess oil will then return through the breather tube and back to the air filter. Engine oil capacity is dependant on your specific engine model. To determine your engine's oil capacity, please visit our Oil Capacitypage. Oil level checking and changing intervals are available on ourMaintenance Schedule page, as well as a hyperlink (text highlighted in blue) leading to oil changing procedures.
The "Oil" section of your Operator's Manual also contains this information. Other possible causes include operating or tilting the unit at an angle, an obstruction in the breather tube (located behind the air filter), damage to the cylinder/piston rings, etc.

I have a Briggs stratton 14 hp ohv I/c quiet model 287707. I had a guy change the oil & he put 10W30 synthetic oil in it. Now it smokes white smoke really bad. I think he put the wrong oil in

There is a very real difference between 30W and 10W30 oil. Whether it's synthetic or not probably doesn't matter. If you have the literature that came with the mower, it will tell you the recommended engine oil.
If they put in the wrong oil, they should make it right. You shouldn't have to pay twice for an oil change. It could be burning oil, since 10W30 is a lower viscosity than 30W. I would have them change it again, and see if it stops smoking.

Hallo,Why does my BMW produce a cloud of smoke when i ignite.what could be the problem?

What color smoke? White, blue? Blue smoke can generally be pinpointed to bad rings as fuel is get past the piston in the combustion chamber. White smoke could be a myriad of things but usually means there's un burnt fuel in the combustion chamber.

Honda gx620 on golf cart occasionally bogs down & blows enormous cloud of white smoke from exhaust.gas getting in oil also.runs great until this happens

What ussually causes white smoke to come out the exhaust is oil being sucked up in carb. Typical causes are too much oil in crank case or PVC valve. Or really bad piston rings

2005 toyota corolla blowing smoke

Blowing black smoke means fuel mixture is too rich, possible choke is stuck partically closed.
Blowing white smoke especially driving off the traffic lights indicates either worn valve guides or worn piston rings. Valve guides require the head to be removed to replace valve guides.
Replacing piston rings means a major engine repair. It maybe better to get a reconditioned motor than replace worn piston rings because other worn engine parts should be replaced at the same time.

Car smokes blue horribly 307 v8 engine

blue smoke is an indication that it is burning oil,the oil is getting into the combustion chamber either up past the oil rings on the pistons or down past the valve seals, & it 's not always easy to determine which one is the problem, if you get a cloud of smoke when you first start the engine after it has been standing over night & then it clears after a short time it is leaking down through the valve seals but if is is constantly blowing smoke it is most likely the piston oil rings are worn or broken......hope this helps......cheers.

The piston rings need to be replaced. The cylinder might need to be bored out bigger, then put in
